Phase Retrieval for Radar Waveform Optimization

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2012
An important problem in radar waveform optimization is the synthesis of discrete time constant modulus signals from Fourier magnitude data. Iterative algorithms for solving this problem have been proposed in the literature, but the algorithms are only applicable in limited cases, and the convergent behavior of these algorithms has not been established.

Waveform geometry dictating optimal cruising in animals

Journal of The Royal Society Interface
For sustained swimming and flights, vertebrates and insects oscillate their propulsors periodically within a narrow range of Strouhal number (St), a dimensionless quantity describing the rate and density of the motion, suggesting a close relationship between the range and cruising optimality.

Channel-optimized soft trellis waveform coding

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2002
We provide a new fuzzy relaxation trellis codebook search algorithm over noisy channels. The new algorithm solves the problems associated with the LBG algorithm in the sense of delivering relatively lower distortion configurations using short training sequences. Furthermore, the new approach is significantly less sensitive to the initialization process.

Optimal design of neural stimulation current waveforms

2009 Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2009
This paper contains results on the design of electrical signals for delivering charge through electrodes to achieve neural stimulation. A generalization of the usual constant current stimulation phase to a stepped current waveform is presented. The electrode current design is then formulated as the calculation of the current step sizes to minimize the ...

Waveform diversity and optimal change detection

2012 Conference Record of the Forty Sixth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers (ASILOMAR), 2012
We study the problem of change detection for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) when the reference and mission images are the result of interrogation with different waveforms (waveform diversity). With waveform diversity, the problem of change detection becomes more challenging: The point spread functions of the reference and mission images are different ...

Optimal waveform synthesis for adaptive radar

2016 IEEE International Conference on Signal Processing, Communications and Computing (ICSPCC), 2016
Target's echoes from different radar transmitted waveforms can provide different target signatures‥ As for adaptive radar, the transmitted waveforms are adaptive to the operational environment to acquire optimal performance. This paper presents a waveform synthesis method for adaptive radar based on a cascade of the water-filling algorithm and ...

Waveform Design via Convex Optimization

2009
In this thesis, we propose some original examples of radar waveform design via convex optimization theory. After an initial section introducing some basic concepts about waveform design (chapter 2), we analyze in detail code design for a stand-alone radar in case of temporal (chapter 3) or spatial-temporal processing (chapter 4), and for a networked ...
