Optimal transport for seismic full waveform inversion [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Mathematical Sciences, 2016
Full waveform inversion is a successful procedure for determining properties of the earth from surface measurements in seismology. This inverse problem is solved by a PDE constrained optimization where unknown coefficients in a computed wavefield are adjusted to minimize the mismatch with the measured data.

Full Waveform Inversion with Optimal Basis Functions [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2003
Based on the approach suggested by Tarantola, and Gauthier et al., we show that the alternate use of the step (linear) function basis and the block function (quasi-delta function) basis can give accurate full waveform inversion results for the layered acoustic systems, starting from a uniform background.

Quantum optimal control without arbitrary waveform generators

open access: yesPhysical Review Applied, 2023
Simple, precise, and robust control is demanded for operating a large quantum information processor. However, existing routes to high-fidelity quantum control rely heavily on arbitrary waveform generators that are difficult to scale up. Here, we show that arbitrary control of a quantum system can be achieved by simply turning on and off the control ...

Slow-Time MIMO Waveform Design Using Pulse-Agile-Phase-Coding for Range Ambiguity Mitigation

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
This paper proposed a Pulse-Agile-Phase-Coding slow-time MIMO (PAPC-st-MIMO) waveform, where the phase-coded signal is utilized as the intra-pulse modulation of the slow-time MIMO waveform.

Pareto-optimal radar waveform design

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar & Navigation, 2010
This paper deals with the problem of Pareto-optimal waveform design in the presence of colored Gaussian noise, under a similarity and an energy constraint. At the design stage, we determine the optimal radar code according to the following criterion: joint constrained maximization of the detection probability and constrained minimization of the Cramer ...

Optimal current waveforms for switched-reluctance motors [PDF]

open access: yes2016 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA), 2016
In this paper, we address the problem of finding current waveforms for a switched reluctance motor that minimize a user-defined combination of torque ripple and RMS current. The motor model we use is fairly general, and includes magnetic saturation, voltage and current limits, and highly coupled magnetics (and therefore, unconventional geometries and ...

Low Probability of Intercept-Based Radar Waveform Design for Spectral Coexistence of Distributed Multiple-Radar and Wireless Communication Systems in Clutter

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
In this paper, the problem of low probability of intercept (LPI)-based radar waveform design for distributed multiple-radar system (DMRS) is studied, which consists of multiple radars coexisting with a wireless communication system in the same frequency ...

Visual Recovery Reflects Cortical MeCP2 Sensitivity in Rett Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Rett syndrome (RTT) is a devastating neurodevelopmental disorder with developmental regression affecting motor, sensory, and cognitive functions. Sensory disruptions contribute to the complex behavioral and cognitive difficulties and represent an important target for therapeutic interventions.
