Metagratings for underwater acoustic wavefront manipulation

INTER-NOISE and NOISE-CON Congress and Conference Proceedings
Metagratings are flat periodic assemblies of small scatterers, engineered to achieve effects such as steering, beamforming, or absorption. They have recently received attention in both electromagnetism and acoustic fields. In this work, we report the design, modeling, and experimental characterization of metagratings to steer underwater acoustic ...

Multiple wavefront manipulation through matrix algebra

Applied Physics B, 2021
A technique for manipulating wavefronts of propagated objects is proposed, applying matrix algebra to data containing the amplitude and phase information of objects previously propagated. Matrices act as operators, altering the initial conditions of the propagated objects, such as their spatial coordinates, reflection effects, and changes in depth.

Nanostructured metasurfaces for optical wavefront manipulation

Advanced Fabrication Technologies for Micro/Nano Optics and Photonics XIV, 2021
In this talk, we discuss our recent experimental efforts on nanostructured metasurfaces to manipulate the optical wavefront using advanced lithographic techniques. In the talk, we will discuss their functionalities for augmented reality, wavefront structuring and control, filtering, spectrometry, polarimetry, and others.

Nonreciprocal Wavefront Manipulation with Transistor-loaded Metasurfaces

2021 15th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP), 2021
We present four examples of metasurfaces nonreciprocal wavefront manipulations using transistor-loaded resonators: nonreciprocal phase-gradients, nonreciprocal waveplates, a nongyrotropic reflective isolator and a gyrotropic reflective isolator.

Metagratings for Efficient Wavefront Manipulation

2018 12th International Congress on Artificial Materials for Novel Wave Phenomena (Metamaterials), 2018
Metagratings are two-dimensional periodic arrays of individual scatterers that enable highly-efficient extreme wave transformation which was impossible using conventional metasurfaces. We review our recent progress in this area and, notably, discuss metagrating designs based on asymmetric electric dipoles that are practically easier to realize compared

Bianisotropic acoustic metasurfaces for wavefront manipulation

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2018
Materials with sub-wavelength asymmetry and long-range order have recently been shown to respond to acoustic waves in a manner that is analogous to electromagnetic biansiotropy [Sieck et al. Phys. Rev. B 96, 104303, (2017)]. A characteristic of these materials is the generation of dipolar scattering when subjected to a uniform time-varying pressure ...

Compensating Plasmonic Losses by Wavefront Manipulation

Frontiers in Optics 2015, 2015
We demonstrate experimentally the generation of unique surface-plasmon beams, which compensate the inherent losses of plasmons without using gain media, and show that these beams can extend the limited propagation length of surface-plasmons.

Antireflection and Wavefront Manipulation with Cascaded Metasurfaces

Physical Review Applied, 2020
Layered structures are widely used in optics to control wave reflection and propagation at interfaces but their thickness relative to the wavelength hinders their application in the radio-frequency regime. Here, we design and experimentally demonstrate cascaded metasurfaces with deeply subwavelength thickness that provide both antireflection and ...
