Wavefront manipulation in imaging: when blurry is better

Frontiers in Optics, 2003
Traditional imaging system design places a priority on correcting the exit pupil wavefront to produce a sharp image at the plane of detection. This paper discusses applications where system performance is improved by manipulating the wavefront to differ from a converging spherical wave.

Ultra-broadband high-efficiency circular polarization conversion and terahertz wavefront manipulation based on an all-metallic reflective metasurface.

Applied Optics, 2022
In this paper, an all-metal metasurface (MS), which can achieve high-efficient reflective circular-polarization conversion and multifunctional terahertz (THz) wavefront manipulation in an ultra-broadband frequency range, is proposed and investigated ...

A transformation elasticity based device for wavefront manipulation

NDT & E International, 2019
Abstract The authors propose a metamaterial plate made of gradient refractive index phononic crystals for manipulation of the wavefront of propagating elastic waves in solid media. A square unit cell with through holes is considered as the basis for the proposed metematerial.

Broadband manipulation of acoustic wavefronts by pentamode metasurface

Applied Physics Letters, 2015
An acoustic metasurface with a sub-wavelength thickness can manipulate acoustic wavefronts freely by the introduction of abrupt phase variation. However, the existence of a narrow bandwidth and a low transmittance limits further applications. Here, we present a broadband and highly transparent acoustic metasurface based on a frequency-independent ...

Metagratings for underwater acoustic wavefront manipulation

INTER-NOISE and NOISE-CON Congress and Conference Proceedings
Metagratings are flat periodic assemblies of small scatterers, engineered to achieve effects such as steering, beamforming, or absorption. They have recently received attention in both electromagnetism and acoustic fields.

Two-dimensional graphene metasurfaces for wavefront manipulation

2016 Progress in Electromagnetic Research Symposium (PIERS), 2016
Two dimensional graphene metasurfaces working in terahertz regime are proposed to realize dynamical control of wavefront with high efficiency. Each graphene metasurface consists of an array of graphene rectangle patches on square grounded dielectric substrate.
