Image-based wavefront sensing for astronomy using neural networks

open access: yesJournal of Astronomical Telescopes Instruments and Systems, 2020
. Motivated by the potential of nondiffraction limited, real-time computational image sharpening with neural networks in astronomical telescopes, we studied wavefront sensing with convolutional neural networks based on a pair of in-focus and out-of-focus

All‐in‐One Underwater Quality Evaluation Metamaterial With Mechanical Robustness, Sound Attenuation, and Diffuse Reflection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, a bioinspired all‐in‐one underwater quality evaluation metamaterial, combining sound attenuation, diffuse reflection, and mechanical robustness, is proposed based on jumping spider locomotion and human skeletal biomechanics. Meanwhile, a CNN‑driven quality evaluation framework is established for theoretically dimension‐reduced ...

Arbitrary Orthogonal Polarization Decomposition and Routing With Complex Amplitude Modulation via Wheel‐of‐Fortune‐Inspired Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a receiver‐transmitter‐integrated metasurface that decomposes an incident wave into orthogonal components and routes them into separate channels. Inspired by a “Wheel‐of‐Fortune” mechanism, it enables independent control over the amplitude, phase, and polarization of the transmitted wave.

Comparison of Wavefront Sensing Methods for Solar Ground-Layer Adaptive Optics: Multi-Direction Averaging and Wide-Field Correlation

open access: yesPhotonics
Solar ground-layer adaptive optics (GLAO) is widely recognized as a key technology for achieving high-resolution, wide-field imaging in ground-based solar telescopes. However, the accuracy differences among various wavefront sensing methods in solar GLAO

Wavefront error sensing [PDF]

open access: yes
A two-step approach to wavefront sensing for the Large Deployable Reflector (LDR) was examined as part of an effort to define wavefront-sensing requirements and to determine particular areas for more detailed study.

Non‐Invasively Tracking an Arbitrary Deformable Object Through Scattering Media and Around Corners via Speckle Correlations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A speckle correlation centroid localization method (SCCLM) is proposed for non‐invasive tracking of an arbitrary deformable object through scattering media and around corners, requiring no prior information. Its effectiveness is demonstrated not only in tracking hidden objects beyond the memory effect region but also in following objects undergoing ...

Ingot Laser Guide Stars Wavefront Sensing

open access: yes, 2017
We revisit one class of z-invariant WaveFront sensor where the LGS is fired aside of the telescope aperture. In this way there is a spatial dependence on the focal plane with respect to the height where the resonant scattering occurs. We revise the basic
