Prism configurations for wavefront sensing

Applied Optics, 1990
This Technical Note mentions two prism configurations for wavefront sensing, both stimulated by works of Roddier. One implements an interferometric pupil-plane sensor, the other a noninterferometric wavefront curvature sensor.

Detectors for AO wavefront sensing

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
The detector is a critical component of any Adaptive Optics WaveFront Sensing (AO WFS) system. The required performance combination of fast frame rate, high quantum efficiency, low read noise and dark signal, number and size (24-50 μm) of pixels pushes detector technology to the edge such that in many cases custom detector developments are required.

Analysis of Geometric Wavefront Sensing

Adaptive Optics: Analysis and Methods/Computational Optical Sensing and Imaging/Information Photonics/Signal Recovery and Synthesis Topical Meetings on CD-ROM, 2005
This paper describes the common limitations imposed on all wavefront sensors which rely on a geometric optics model of wavefront propagation. The differences between open and closed loop operation are also discussed.

A novel wavefront sensing method

Pure and Applied Optics: Journal of the European Optical Society Part A, 1993
A novel phase-retrieval approach to optical wavefront sensing is proposed. The method is applicable to sensing fixed, or atmospheric wavefront distributions, in the pupil plane of a telescope. Computer simulation results are presented which indicate that the proposed method performs well for D/r0 values as large as 10.

Wavefront sensing of XUV beams

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
For the purpose of the wavefront profile measurement of XUV beams emitting at 21.2 nm and 30 nm, we designed the PDI (Point Diffraction Interferometer) wavefront sensor. PDI is a self-referencing monolithic device consisting of a thin neutral filter and a very small pinhole located near the axis of the XUV beam focal spot.

Synthetic aperture wavefront sensing

Optical Engineering, 2013
We propose the synthetic aperture wavefront sensing approach. It is based on acquiring several sets of measurements of the wavefront slopes by displacing sequentially the microlens array with respect to the unknown wavefront. These measurements are stacked together and processed as if obtained with a single-sampling array with an effective number of ...

Wavefront sensing by optical differentiation

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
There are two main ways to address the wavefront sensing problem with modal wavefront sensors. First, the slope approximation that estimates a series of local first derivatives of the wavefront, as in the Hartmann-Shack sensor. Secondly, the curvature approximation, that estimates a series of second derivatives of the wavefront in different areas, as ...

Wavefront Sensing in Deep Turbulence

Optics and Photonics News, 2018
Applications ranging from lidar to free-space laser communications to directed energy require ever-better ways to overcome the distortions of a churning atmosphere. Emerging wavefront-sensing technologies are stepping up to the challenge.

Wavefront Sensing and Advanced Imaging

Frontiers in Optics 2011/Laser Science XXVII, 2011
We are investigating photon correlation and heterodyne techniques that will enable extremely large aperture imaging systems. Triple correlations and closure phases are used to estimate and correct wavefront errors using image plane data. Article not available.
