The waveguide invariant for a Pekeris waveguide
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2021A closed-form waveguide invariant β for a Pekeris waveguide is derived. It is based on the modal Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) dispersion equation and implicit differentiation, in conjunction with the concept of the “effective boundary depth,” ΔH(θ), where θ is the propagation angle.

Optical Waveguide Refractometers
2005In this chapter we have illustrated a new method for the determination of the refractive index of liquid samples, based on Cerenkov second harmonic generation from suitable planar waveguides. The method allows the determination of the refractive index in the near infrared by detection in the visible.

Periodic Waveguides and MQW Waveguide
2015In research field of optics, diffraction gratings are widely investigated and applied; on the other hand, periodic metal waveguide is familiar to those worked with microwave waveguide. The early studies on periodic waveguide have a profound impact on the development of the waveguide optics.

Elliptic-Hyperbolical Waveguides
Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, 2000Summary: The elliptic-hyperbolical waveguide is analyzed with the method of the separation of variables. A suitable set of eigen-functions is defined and the TE and TM solutions for an elliptic sectoral guide and for the ridged elliptical guide are presented.

Grating assisted waveguide-to-waveguide couplers
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 1998A new radiation-type waveguide-to-waveguide coupler is proposed. The coupling is realized through gratings embedded on the dielectric waveguides involved. Compared to the conventional hybrid-mode coupler, this type of coupler has advantages in that the two waveguides can be quite dissimilar as well as being separated by large distances.

We propose a method of optical waveguiding, which relies on Bragg diffractions from a 1D grating that gives rise to waveguiding in the direction normal to the grating wave vector. The waveguide structure consists of a shallow 1D grating that has a bell- or trough-shaped amplitude in the confinement direction.

An investigation of the chromatic properties of waveguide lenses is described. In general, the focal length of mode-index and Fresnel zone (diffractive) lenses will be a function of wavelength. As a result, these lenses will have high optical quality over only a relatively small wavelength range.
