A Waveguide Polarization Toolset Design Based on Mode Beating [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2011
A toolset of waveguide elements is examined, which can be combined to produce polarization functional devices in a single contiguous waveguide. In particular, waveguide implementations of an optical isolator and a polarization modulator are discussed ...

Optofluidics: waveguides and devices

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2012
In this work we review recent results of our work on optofluidics. We show that single mode optofluidic waveguides with low loss can be realized using antiresonant reflecting optical confinement (ARROW). These waveguides can be fabricated using full standard silicon technology or hybrid silicon-polymer processes.

A Novel Mode-Matching Formulation of Multifurcated Waveguide Junctions

open access: yesJournal of Microwaves, Optoelectronics and Electromagnetic Applications, 2021
In this paper, we present a mode-matching-based formulation for the electromagnetic analysis of multifurcated waveguide problems, that is, the junction of a number of input waveguides with an output region of larger cross-section area.

Dual Coupled Long-Range Hybrid Surface Plasmon Polariton Waveguide for Sub-Wavelength Confinement

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
In this paper, a long-range hybrid waveguide for subwavelength confinement based on double SPP coupling is proposed. The hybrid waveguide consists of a metal-based cylindrical hybrid waveguide and a silver nanowire.

Review of applications and surface smoothing mechanisms of optical waveguide devices

open access: yesJournal of Hebei University of Science and Technology, 2017
Optical waveguide devices are widely used in many fields and have good development prospects. But surface roughness of waveguide device induces a passive effect on the light transmission loss and the Q value of ring cavity, which restricts the ...

NONLINEAR EFFECTS IN WAVEGUIDE DEVICES

open access: yesLe Journal de Physique Colloques, 1988
All-optical switching and routing of light in fibers and waveguides has the potential of handling optical signals at ul rahigh speed. By using very rapid electronic nonlinearities in transparent materials, extremely fast switching free of thermal problems could be obtained. The guided wave environment reduces the peak power requirements.

Miniature Nonmechanical Beam Deflector Based on Bragg Reflector Waveguide With a Number of Resolution Points Larger Than 1000

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
A compact and super-high-resolution beam steering device is demonstrated using a Bragg reflector waveguide. For 37-nm tuning in input wavelengths, we obtained a continuous beam steering angle of 60°.

Symmetrical Metal Cladding Waveguide for Absorption Sensing and its Sensitivity Analysis

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
A sensitivity analysis of absorption sensing based on the symmetrical metal-cladding waveguide is presented. The calculated reflectivity curve shows that any minute variation of the extinction coefficient due to absorption of the sample will easily give ...
