Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and

Directional Flow of Confined Polaritons in CrSBr

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
CrSBr, a layered magnetic semiconductor, naturally channels self‐hybridized excitonpolaritons into highly directional flow. Its intrinsic optical anisotropy, high refractive index, and strong lightmatter coupling enable long‐range guided modes along the a‐axis, with propagation lengths set by their excitonphoton admixture.

Monolithic waveguide laser mode-locked by embedded Ag nanoparticles operating at 1 μm

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2019
Monolithic waveguide laser devices are required to achieve on-chip lasing. In this work, a new design of a monolithic device with embedded Ag nanoparticles (NPs) plus the Nd:YAG ridge waveguide has been proposed and implemented.

Strategy for Low‐Loss Optical Devices When Using High‐Loss Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, 2022
Material loss, especially in metal and 2D materials, is the bottleneck for high‐performance integrated optical devices. Here, a novel concept by utilizing the high‐loss materials in a non‐Hermitian system instead of avoiding the loss materials.

Tapered photonic crystal microcavities embedded in photonic wire waveguides with large resonance quality-factor and high transmission [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present the design, fabrication, and characterization of a microcavity that exhibits simultaneously high transmission and large resonance quality-factor (Q-factor). This microcavity is formed by a single-row photonic crystal (PhC) embedded in a 500-nm-

Role of the Recombination Zone in Organic Light‐Emitting Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the critical role of the recombination zone in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). We highlight that broadening the recombination zone in OLEDs based on emissive layers with balanced charge transport and high photoluminescence quantum yields provides a promising route toward achieving both long operational lifetime and high ...

Plasmonic coaxial waveguide-cavity devices

open access: yesOptics Express, 2015
We theoretically investigate three-dimensional plasmonic waveguide-cavity structures, built by side-coupling stub resonators that consist of plasmonic coaxial waveguides of finite length, to a plasmonic coaxial waveguide. The resonators are terminated either in a short or an open circuit.
