Wavelet analysis of temporal data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This thesis considers the application of wavelets to problems involving multiple series of temporal data. Wavelets have proven to be highly effective at extracting frequency information from data.

Wavelet Theory: Applications of the Wavelet

open access: yes, 2021
In this Chapter, continuous Haar wavelet functions base and spline base have been discussed. Haar wavelet approximations are used for solving of differential equations (DEs). The numerical solutions of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and fractional differential equations (FrDEs) using Haar wavelet base and spline base have been discussed.

Feature Extraction of Mine Water Inrush Precursor

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Coal water inrush acoustic emission (AE) signal is characterized by time varying, nonstationary, unpredictable and transient properties. To extract effective features representing coal water inrush information, the AE signal is analyzed by the wavelet ...

Error bounds of a function related to generalized Lipschitz class via the pseudo-Chebyshev wavelet and its applications in the approximation of functions

open access: yesKarpatsʹkì Matematičnì Publìkacìï, 2022
In this paper, a new computation method derived to solve the problems of approximation theory. This method is based upon pseudo-Chebyshev wavelet approximations. The pseudo-Chebyshev wavelet is being presented for the first time.

Open Problems in Wavelet Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We present a collection of easily stated open problems in wavelet theory and we survey the current status of answering them. This includes a problem of Larson on minimally supported frequency wavelets. We show that it has an affirmative answer for MRA wavelets.

Shannon Wavelets Theory [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, 2008
Shannon wavelets are studied together with their differential properties (known as connection coefficients). It is shown that the Shannon sampling theorem can be considered in a more general approach suitable for analyzing functions ranging in multifrequency bands. This generalization coincides with the Shannon wavelet reconstruction of L2(ℝ) functions.

Wavelets in field theory

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2013
We advocate the use of Daubechies wavelets as a basis for treating a variety of problems in quantum field theory. This basis has both natural large volume and short distance cutoffs, has natural partitions of unity, and the basis functions are all related to the fixed point of a linear renormalization group equation.

Wavelet Estimators in Nonparametric Regression: A Comparative Simulation Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Wavelet analysis has been found to be a powerful tool for the nonparametric estimation of spatially-variable objects. We discuss in detail wavelet methods in nonparametric regression, where the data are modelled as observations of a signal contaminated ...

Wavelet footprints: theory, algorithms, and applications [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2003
Wavelet-based algorithms have been successful in different signal processing tasks. The wavelet transform is a powerful tool because it manages to represent both transient and stationary behaviors of a signal with few transform coefficients. Discontinuities often carry relevant signal information, and therefore, they represent a critical part to ...

U.S. Core Inflation: A Wavelet Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This paper proposes the use of wavelet methods to estimate U.S. core inflation. It explains wavelet methods and suggests they are ideally suited to this task.
