Simulation of ocean wave in the Northwest Pacific Ocean(西北太平洋海浪数值模拟)

open access: yesZhejiang Daxue xuebao. Lixue ban, 2009

Multidecadal Oscillation Masks Ocean Wave Climate Trends in 75‐Year Global Wave Hindcast

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract The observed increases in temperature and sea level are clearly driven by climate change, and these trends are projected to accelerate in the future. The ocean surface wave characteristics are projected to change depending on the climatic elements.

A new global high-resolution wave model for the tropical ocean using WAVEWATCH III version 7.14 [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development
Climate change is driving sea-level rise and potentially intensifying extreme events in the tropical belt, thereby increasing coastal hazards. On tropical islands, extreme sea levels and subsequent marine flooding can be triggered by cyclones but also ...

Tidal Modulation of Waves Around the Aleutian Islands

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Forming a critical part of the North Pacific Great Circle Route, the narrow passes of the Aleutian Islands are considered among the United States' most treacherous waters for maritime navigation. This study investigates the tidal modulation of surface gravity waves throughout the archipelago using a high‐resolution, unstructured‐grid, coupled ...

alphaBetaLab: Automatic estimation of subscale transparencies for the Unresolved Obstacles Source Term in ocean wave modelling

open access: yesSoftwareX, 2019
The Unresolved Obstacles Source Term (UOST) is a general methodology to parameterize the dissipative effects of subscale islands, cliffs and unresolved coastal features in ocean wave models.

Observation-based input and dissipation version of WAVEWATCH III

open access: yes
Measurements collected at Lake George, Australia, resulted in new insights on the processes of wind wave interaction and white-capping dissipation and consequently new parameterisations of these source terms. The new nonlinear wind input source term accounts for dependence of the growth increment on wave steepness, for airflow separation which leads to

Comparison of ice and wind-wave modules in WAVEWATCH III® in the Barents Sea

open access: yesCold Regions Science and Technology, 2020
Abstract The global wave model WAVEWATCH III® provides several modules to include the wind and ice effects. In this study, we first use data from a set of Inertial Measurement Units collected in the Barents Sea on 5 May 2016 to calibrate two theory-driven ice modules that contain parameters.

Winter Ice‐Wave Modeling With WAVEWATCH III in Lake Erie

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans
AbstractOperational wave forecasts for the Great Lakes originate from the NOAA Great Lakes Waves Unstructured version 2 system. The model uses a simple ice blocking (IC0) parameterization for ice‐wave damping, so ice‐covered portions of the lakes are treated as land in the modeling system.
