Efficacy of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae vaccination before and at weaning against experimental challenge infection in pigs [PDF]
Background: Commercial bacterins are widely used at weaning to control Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infections in pigs. However, it is not known whether the efficacy of vaccinating against M.

The transition period in dairy cows, spanning 3 weeks before and after calving, is a critical phase characterized by increased nutrient demands, reduced dry matter intake (DMI), and elevated risk of metabolic disorders such as negative nutrient balance (NNB), lipolysis, proteolysis, and oxidative stress.

Abstract Hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) is associated with increased waitlist mortality in liver transplantation (LT) candidates. Children with HPS are granted Model for End‐Stage Liver Disease (MELD)/Pediatric End‐Stage Liver Disease (PELD) exception points for waitlist prioritization in the United States based on criterion developed for adults.

The objective of this study was to estimate heritability and correlations of 36,505 animals, belonging to the Brazilian Association of Zebu Breeders. They were estimated by Restricted Maximum Likelihood method (REML) using Wombat software. The model included the direct additive genetic effect, maternal, permanent maternal environment and residual as ...

Abstract To determine the relationship between within-litter birth weight variation and pre-weaning survival and weight gain, and to provide practical guidance on fostering low-birth-weight piglets, we analyzed piglet survival and weight gain in litters of piglets from 52 sows followed through eight consecutive parities.

Calf pre-weaning traits and immunoglobulin response to bovine viral diarrhea virus vaccination [PDF]
Calfhood vaccination for bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is a relatively new concept, and protocols are evolving. Our objective was to determine effects of BVDV type I vaccination protocol, calf behavior (chute score, and chute exit velocity), and ...

The effects of restricted nursing (RN) and the administration of a bovine appeasing substance (BAS) on days −8 and 0 in relation to weaning were evaluated. Both strategies were effective in improving the growth performance of beef calves. Regarding welfare, BAS ‐especially on day 0‐ was more effective than RN.

Portopulmonary hypertension practice patterns after liver transplantation
Abstract Portopulmonary hypertension (POPH) is a type of pulmonary arterial hypertension occurring exclusively in those with portal hypertensive liver disease. Liver transplantation (LT) can significantly improve outcomes. Current guidelines counsel against immediate adjustments to targeted therapy after LT and suggest routine echocardiography as ...

Among-breed estimates of heritability for birth weight, weaning weight, and mature cow weight
Data from a rotational crossbreeding study was used to calculate among-breed heritabilities of birth weight (BWT), weaning weight (WWT), and mature cow weight at 5 years of age. The among-breed estimates were higher than previous within-breed estimates because of the inclusion of genetic differences between breeds. Maternal effects for BWT and WWT also
