COMP Report: CPQR technical quality control guidelines for use of positron emission tomography/computed tomography in radiation treatment planning

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Positron emission tomography with x‐ray computed tomography (PET/CT) is increasingly being utilized for radiation treatment planning (RTP). Accurate delivery of RT therefore depends on quality PET/CT data. This study covers quality control (QC) procedures required for PET/CT for diagnostic imaging and incremental QC required for RTP.

A small footprint couch‐top support device for image‐guided radiotherapy of heavy patients

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, Volume 23, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Purpose Patients with body weights close to or above 400 lbs present unique challenges in radiation therapy since the weight limit of most treatment couches decreases as the couch‐top extends toward the treatment gantry. The purpose of this work was to develop a small footprint couch‐top support platform to safely perform image‐guided ...

Adhesive wear regimes on rough surfaces and interaction of micro-contacts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
We develop an analytical model of adhesive wear between two unlubricated rough surfaces, forming micro-contacts under normal load. The model is based on an energy balance and a crack initiation criteria. We apply the model to the problem of self-affine rough surfaces under normal load, which we solve using the boundary element method.

Conceptual Design and Parametric Optimization of a New Multileveled Horsetail Structure for Bicycle Helmets

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
This study aims to explore the feasibility of using a structure inspired by the features of horsetail and human spine as the potential helmet liner, targeting at mitigation of acceleration‐induced injuries. A parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect of individual geometrical variables in the design, indicating its capability to reduce ...

Experimental Investigation on the Friction-induced Vibration with Periodic Characteristics in a Running-in Process under Lubrication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
This paper investigated the friction-induced vibration (FIV) behavior under the running-in process with oil lubrication. The FIV signal with periodic characteristics under lubrication was identified with the help of the squeal signal induced in an oil-free wear experiment and then extracted by the harmonic wavelet packet transform (HWPT). The variation

Understanding and formalization of the fretting-wear behavior of a cobalt-based alloy at high temperature [PDF]

open access: yesWear, Elsevier, 2020, 452-453, pp.203297, 2021
The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanisms involved in the wear of cobalt-based interfaces at high temperature. The studied contact is a cobalt-based alloy subjected to fretting against an alumina sample. At high temperature, a protective third body is spontaneously created at the interface and presents excellent tribological properties.

Wear and Tear of Tyres: A Stealthy Source of Microplastics in the Environment

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2017
Wear and tear from tyres significantly contributes to the flow of (micro-)plastics into the environment. This paper compiles the fragmented knowledge on tyre wear and tear characteristics, amounts of particles emitted, pathways in the environment, and ...
