We describe two applications that illustrate the idea of computational wear in the domain of document processing. By graphically depicting the history of author and reader interactions with documents, these applications offer otherwise unavailable information to guide work.

Particulate and ionic debris resulting from in vivo degradation of total joint replacement components are recognized as major factors limiting the longevity of the joint reconstruction and the overall success of the procedure. Particulate and ionic wear and corrosion debris have been associated with a locally aggressive biologic response that can lead ...

Tooth wear and wear investigations in dentistry
Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2011Summary Tooth wear has been recognised as a major problem in dentistry. Epidemiological studies have reported an increasing prevalence of tooth wear and general dental practitioners see a greater number of patients seeking treatment with worn dentition.

Abstract This chapter looks at the labret-wearing practices of two very different peoples, the Mebêngôkre (Brazil) and Mun (Ethiopia). It emphasizes how lip plates are made, worn, valued, and evaluated at a normative level, considering how the Mun and Mebêngôkre understand these practices, how their views clash with those of outsiders,

In this conceptual paper, we describe and define the range of possible applications, and the technical contours, of a robotic system to be worn on the body for playful interactions. Earlier work on a modular robotic wearable (MRW) described how, by using modular robotics to create a wearable, it is possible to obtain a flexible wearable processing ...

Wear-out is a much more intractable subject than stress rupture, if only because of the literally hundreds of different wear processes that can lead to failure. In spite of this, a common approach to all wear mechanisms is highly desirable, otherwise design methodology becomes a never-ending topic. A common approach is certainly the target of this book.

The wear resistance of single crystals of sapphire was determined as a function of crystallographic orientation with respect to plane of wear and rubbing direction. Distinct anisotropy was found. Evidence of plastic flow at the wear surface on both basal and prismatic slip systems was obtained.

AbstractInterstitial wear refers to the attrition between adjacent teeth. With other characteristics, it has been used to indicate savanna adaptation and to separate hominids from pongids. This work discusses a functional model of the factors causing interproximal attrition based on tooth angulation and masticatory movement. Interstitial wear rates are
