Wear and wear transition mechanisms of ceramics
Wear, 1996Abstract The combination of indentation, inclined-plane sliding, and wear tests provides useful and unique way to investigate ceramic wear and wear transition mechanisms. The experimental results show that wear mechanisms of ceramics are predominantly dependent on the tribological contact stresses.

Wear Mechanism Based on Wear Anisotropy
Tribology Transactions, 2000Self-mated dry sliding wear experiments were conducted on alumina using a pin-on-disc configuration. Worn alumina surface showed pits and projections in the size and shape of the grains. This paper shows that formation of these pits and projections are due to the wear anisotropy observed in single crystal alumina.
