Wear-out is a much more intractable subject than stress rupture, if only because of the literally hundreds of different wear processes that can lead to failure. In spite of this, a common approach to all wear mechanisms is highly desirable, otherwise design methodology becomes a never-ending topic. A common approach is certainly the target of this book.
