Wear and wear transition mechanisms of ceramics

Wear, 1996
Abstract The combination of indentation, inclined-plane sliding, and wear tests provides useful and unique way to investigate ceramic wear and wear transition mechanisms. The experimental results show that wear mechanisms of ceramics are predominantly dependent on the tribological contact stresses.

Wear Mechanism Based on Wear Anisotropy

Tribology Transactions, 2000
Self-mated dry sliding wear experiments were conducted on alumina using a pin-on-disc configuration. Worn alumina surface showed pits and projections in the size and shape of the grains. This paper shows that formation of these pits and projections are due to the wear anisotropy observed in single crystal alumina.

Corrosion and Wear

1991
The composition and physical integrity of a solid material are altered in a corrosive environment. In chemical corrosion, the material is dissolved by a corrosive liquid. In electrochemical corrosion, metal atoms are removed from the solid material as the result of an electric circuit that is produced.

Wear

2008
This article presents an overview of probabilistic wear models based on lifetime distributions or stochastic processes and discusses their interest in wear‐dependent reliability modeling and condition‐based maintenance evaluation.

Wear and wear maps of coatings

2008
Abstract Delamination is the most serious damage of a coating. It is generated even by a single action of contact when the mating material is very hard and its surface is indented into the coating under relatively large contact load. Cracks of ring, radial and/or lateral types are generated in the coating around the contact region, and partial ...

The role of wear debris in the study of wear

Wear, 1983
Abstract The danger of using the steady state wear rates of metals to compare materials is indicated; the total wear must also be considered. Particle size analysis shows that, in sliding wear, the smallest particles are the most numerous. Surface topographies of steel and aluminium alloys as produced in laboratory machines were compared with the ...
