Taxation: Prepaid Income Deferrals and the “Claim of Right Doctrine” [PDF]

open access: yes, 1960
The effects of wear to friction are studied based on constant-speed friction data collected from dedicated experiments during accelerated wear tests. It is shown how the effects of temperature and load uncertainties produce larger changes to friction ...

Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

Synthesis and Morphology Control of Nanoporous Cu2O/Cu and Their Application as Electrode Materials for Capacitors

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2019
In this paper, nanoporous copper (NPC) was prepared by dealloying ZrCuAl metallic glass ribbons with HF acid solutions. The effect of dealloying time on the porous structures and thickness of the obtained NPC films was investigated. It was found that the

The Accumulation of Wear on Footwear Pattern Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Wear is defined as the erosion of a shoe’s outsole or the loss of tread pattern, and it happens gradually over time with use. After a shoeprint is collected from a crime scene, it is questioned whether an individualization can be made if an exemplar is ...

Measuring physical activity using accelerometry in 13-15-year-old adolescents : the importance of including non-wear activities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Objective: The present study aimed to examine the impact of non-wear activities registered in diaries when using accelerometers to assess physical activity (PA) in young adolescents. Design: Data arise from a large-scale cross-sectional study on PA.

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

Enhancement of wear properties of a polyether ether ketone polymer by incorporation of carbon and glass fibers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Some properties of polymers can be improved through the incorporation of carbon and glass fibers into the polymer matrix. In this research, the wear resistance of two polymer composites CF-polyether ether ketone (PEEK) and GF-PEEK were compared with the ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 11, 3 June 2026.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting
