Wear prediction for metals

Tribology International, 1997
In spite of the large number of wear models found in the literature, no model can predict metal wear a priori based only on materials property data and contact information. The complexity of wear and the large number of parameters affecting the outcome are the primary reasons for this situation.

Numerical Prediction of Car Tire Wear

Tire Science and Technology, 2004
Abstract Due to their many economic and ecological implications, the possibility to predict tire wear is of major importance to tire manufacturers, fleet owners and governments. Based on these observations, in 2000, a three‐year project named TROWS (Tire and Road Wear and Slip assessment) was started. One of the TROWS objectives is to provide a

Wear Prediction of Ball Screw Based on Adhesive Wear

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
This paper aims to develop a new systematic analysis model to predict the wear of ball screw in stabilization condition. In order to investigate the wear behavior between the ball and raceway, a proper contact mechanics model should be established. Then, the wear model of ball screw based on Archard will be proposed and calculated by substituting the ...

Investigation of a transitional wear model for wear and wear-type rail corrugation prediction

Wear, 2011
In this paper, a recently proposed mechanics-based model for the wear coefficient of rail steels is experimentally validated and implemented to obtain useful predictive wear models for some popular railway steels. The model is then implemented to investigate the feasibility of top of rail (TOR) friction modifiers (FMs) for wear-type rail corrugation ...

Determination of wear coefficients for erosive wear prediction through Coriolis wear testing

Wear, 2005
In simulation of erosive wear on wet-end components (i.e. casing, impeller and liners) of centrifugal slurry pumps using numerical models, the determination of wear coefficients is critical to achieve reasonable and consistent accuracy on wear life prediction.

The prediction of wear by paper

Wear, 1972
Abstract The paper outlines the development of mathematical models to predict the wear of metal, polymer, and ceramic materials caused by the abrasive effects of paper. The collection and analysis of wear data, and the derivation of the predictive mathematical models are described.

Prediction of total knee arthroplasty polyethylene wear using the wear index

The Journal of Arthroplasty, 2002
The predictive value of the wear index for total knee arthroplasty polyethylene wear was determined using a numeric and in vitro model. The wear index was defined as the deformation x the sliding velocity. Four commercially available total knee prostheses were modeled for this study.

Predictive model for ball mill wear

Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 1997
Abstract Ball mills, characteristic of the mineral processing industry, are used to reduce ore from one size distribution to another. Wear is associated with comminution mechanisms found in the ball charge which in turn affects grinding performance.

Prediction of Steady-State Wear Coefficients in Adhesive Wear

Tribology Transactions, 2004
With an integrated adhesive wear model, Yang's second wear coefficient equation was previously found suitable for modeling the standard wear coefficients for both the transient wear and the steady-state wear of MMC-A, MMC-B, and MMC-C, which are aluminium-based matrix composites containing 10%, 15%, and 20% alumina particles, respectively.

Diagonal Wear Predicted By a Simple Wear Model

1986
Diagonal wear on tires is a significant problem that can cause noise and vibration, and reduce the useful life of the tire. A wear model is used to show how diagonal wear can develop across the tread under certain conditions of toe and camber on a nondrive axle.
