Tool wear prediction model based on wear influence factor

open access: yesThe International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2023
Abstract This study proposed a new method for predicting tool wear curve over machining time through abscissa stretching or compressing based on wear influence factor. In this method, firstly, the relationship model between the tool wear rate and the cutting parameters needs to be built, and the wear influence factor can be derived from this ...

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

A Wear Prediction Framework for Ball-Screw of Electro-Mechanical Brake Unit on Railway Trains

open access: yesActuators
The electro-mechanical brake is a new advancement in railway train braking. Ball-screws are important components of electro-mechanical braking units (EMBUs), and their wear can cause EMBUs to degrade in performance or even fail to function. In this paper,

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...
