Evaluation of the synoptic and mesoscale predictive capabilities of a mesoscale atmospheric simulation system [PDF]

open access: yes
The overall performance characteristics of a limited area, hydrostatic, fine (52 km) mesh, primitive equation, numerical weather prediction model are determined in anticipation of satellite data assimilations with the model.

Bioinspired Bromination Enables Extensible, Strain‐Stiffening Resilin Peptide Scaffolds with Tunable Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioinspired bromination of a resilin‐derived peptide enables the fabrication of electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds that uniquely combine strain‐stiffening elasticity, proteolytic stability, and antioxidant functionality. These brominated peptide–gelatin hybrids mimic the extensibility of natural elastomers, demonstrating tunable mechanical resilience ...

Assessment and forecasting of lightning potential and its effect on launch operations at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and John F. Kennedy Space Center [PDF]

open access: yes
Lightning plays a pivotal role in the operation decision process for space and ballistic launches at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Kennedy Space Center. Lightning forecasts are the responsibility of Detachment 11, 4th Weather Wing's Cape Canaveral

Naturally Derived Donor‐π‐Acceptor Compounds for Efficient Long‐Wavelength LEDs/Sunlight‐Induced Polymerization and High‐Precision Multiple 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two novel donor–π–acceptor photoinitiators enable ultrafast long‐wavelength photopolymerization under blue/green LEDs and sunlight. Effective at low intensities and concentrations, they overcome slow kinetics and permit rapid 3D printing via DLW, DLP, and LCD methods.

Domain‐Wall‐Free Sliding Ferroelectricity in Fully Commensurate 3R Transition Metal Dichalcogenide Bilayers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
It is reported that the ferroelectric switching behavior of rhombohedral (3R) phase transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) bilayers strongly depends on their domain structures. Single‐domain TMDs (SD‐TMDs) with domain‐wall‐free structures exhibit robust and stable polarization switching, whereas poly‐domain TMDs (PD‐TMDs) with randomly distributed ...

Weather forecast or rain-dance? On inter-war business barometers [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, I use the materials of the debate on the reliability and the utility of “business barometers” of the Twenties in order to show that the theoretical reflexions of the time could be used by economic historians as a working hypothesis to ...

Forecasting and Forecast Combination in Airline Revenue Management Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Predicting a variable for a future point in time helps planning for unknown future situations and is common practice in many areas such as economics, finance, manufacturing, weather and natural sciences. This paper investigates and compares approaches
