Digital surveillance of animals and nature recovery
Abstract Digital surveillance technologies (DSTs) are widely applied in nature recovery for their potential to generate novel data on species and ecosystems through digital tracking, automation (e.g. from hazardous locations) and from newly recruited citizen scientists.

Radar systems for the water resources mission, volume 2 [PDF]
The application of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) in monitoring and managing earth resources was examined. The function of spaceborne radar is to provide maps and map imagery to be used for earth resource and oceanographic applications.

Summary of the High Ice Water Content (HIWC) RADAR Flight Campaigns [PDF]
NASA and the FAA conducted two flight campaigns to quantify onboard weather radar measurements with in-situ measurements of high concentrations of ice crystals found in deep convective storms.

Statistical and neural classifiers in estimating rain rate from weather radar measurements [PDF]
Weather radars are used to measure the electromagnetic radiation backscattered by cloud raindrops. Clouds that backscatter more electromagnetic radiation consist of larger droplets of rain and therefore they produce more rain.

ABSTRACT The existence of permafrost was explored at tropical latitude on Nevado Coropuna (southern Peruvian Andes) using a combination of ground‐penetrating radar (GPR) and vertical electrical sounding (VES) in order to strengthen the mutual validation of data processing and interpretation.

Ice sheet studies using synthetic aperture radar [PDF]
The objective was to demonstrate the utility of synthetic aperture radar in ice sheet studies. The major advantage of SAR imagery over visible imagery is the all-weather capability of radar and the ability to specify look angle.

Covariance of the intertropical discontinuity and African easterly jet in Sahelian wet and dry years
Intertropical discontinuity and African easterly jet (AEJ) positions are strongly correlated, with a more pronounced linear relationship across wet years. Surface heat flux anomalies modify low‐level temperature and sensible heat flux gradients that shift the AEJ core south of the gradient maxima in both composites.

Classification of Biological Scatters Using Polarimetric Weather Radar
Weather radar holds the capability to monitor the extensive migration of bird and insect species. In particular, polarimetric weather radar can enhance aerial ecological monitoring by quantifying target shape through the measurement of polarization ...

Quantifying driving ensemble influence on operational convection‐permitting ensemble spread
By comparing statistics of precipitation patterns between a convection‐permitting ensemble and the global ensemble used to drive it, we investigate the conditions under which the convection‐permitting ensemble diverges from the evolution of the driving ensemble.
