Bioinspired Adaptive Leg‐Claw Enables Robust Perching and Grasping for UAVs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by owl limb morphology and bat roosting behavior, this study presents a bioinspired adaptive leg‐claw mechanism that enables UAVs to perform robust and versatile perching and grasping. The design integrates a four‐link tibial structure, tension‐driven deformable feet, and active control, enabling stable perching on various branches and ...

Weather Risk Management in Tourism Industry

open access: yesSymphonya, 2016
Globalisation, climate change, the global economic crisis, and the increasing political instability have multiplied the risk factors in the tourism industry. Climate change, in particular the variability of weather, hevily affects decision-making in the

WEATHER DERIVATIVES: MANAGING RISK WITH MARKET-BASED INSTRUMENTS [PDF]

open access: yes
Accurate pricing of weather derivatives is critically dependent upon correct specification of the underlying weather process. We test among six likely alternative processes using maximum likelihood methods and data from the Fresno, CA weather station ...

ML Workflows for Screening Degradation‐Relevant Properties of Forever Chemicals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The environmental persistence of per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) necessitates efficient remediation strategies. This study presents physics‐informed machine learning workflows that accurately predict critical degradation properties, including bond dissociation energies and polarizability.

Model based Monte Carlo pricing of energy and temperature quanto options [PDF]

open access: yes
Weather derivatives have become very popular tools in weather risk management in recent years. One of the elements supporting their diffusion has been the increase in volatility observed on many energy markets.

Nuclear Mechanotransduction Across the Metastatic Cascade: Decoding Spatiotemporal Heterogeneity in Cancer Dissemination

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tumor metastasis results from complex interactions between cancer cells and mechanical microenvironments. We propose a “nucleus‐centered, cross‐stage mechanical signal decoding” model, highlighting how nuclear mechanosensors interpret forces at different stages.

Which Method for Pricing Weather Derivatives ? [PDF]

open access: yes
Since the introduction of the first weather derivative in the United-States in 1997, a significant number of work was directed towards the pricing of this product and the modelling of the daily average temperature which characterizes most of the traded ...

Tracking of [14C]Polystyrene Nanoplastics in Pregnant Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates [14C]polystyrene nanoplastic ([14C]PS) translocation in late‐stage pregnant mice after intranasal (0.5 mg of [14C]PS on GD12, GD14, and GD16, n = 6) and intravenous administration (1.5 mg of [14C]PS on GD16, n = 6). 14C‐radiolabel allows quantitative tracking of unmodified polystyrene nanoplastics.

All‐in‐One Underwater Quality Evaluation Metamaterial With Mechanical Robustness, Sound Attenuation, and Diffuse Reflection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, a bioinspired all‐in‐one underwater quality evaluation metamaterial, combining sound attenuation, diffuse reflection, and mechanical robustness, is proposed based on jumping spider locomotion and human skeletal biomechanics. Meanwhile, a CNN‑driven quality evaluation framework is established for theoretically dimension‐reduced ...
