Systemic Weather Risk and Crop Insurance: The Case of China [PDF]

open access: yes
The supply of affordable crop insurance is hampered by the existence of systemic weather risk which results in large risk premiums. In this article, we assess the systemic nature of weather risk for 17 agricultural production regions in China and explore

Asymmetric Impact of El Niño‐Southern Oscillation on Autumn Accumulated Cyclone Energy Over the Western North Pacific

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
This study investigates the asymmetric response of accumulated cyclone energy (ACE) of western North Pacific (WNP) tropical cyclones during autumn (September–November) to El Niño‐Southern Oscillation (ENSO) from 1970 to 2023.

Designing Strong, Tough, Fire‐Retardant and Self‐Healing Elastomers with Phosphorus/Nitrogen‐ and Biphenyl‐Containing Segments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
By designing a P/N‐ and π–π interacting biphenyl‐containing diol as hard segments but side groups, a strong, tough, fire‐extinguishing and self‐healing elastomer is developed, demonstrating a break strain of ∼2500%, a toughness of 379 MJ/m3 and a tensile strength of 46 MPa, as well as a healing efficiency of 95% (tensile strength) and 99% (break strain)

Parameterization and evaluation of nonhydrostatic effect in the orographic gravity wave drag in China Meteorological Administration Global Forecast System (CMA-GFS) v4.0 model [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development
The China Meteorological Administration Global Forecast System (CMA-GFS) v4.0 model was upgraded to a higher resolution of 0.125° in May 2023. To be compatible with its fine resolution, the parameterization scheme of orographic gravity wave drag (OGWD ...

Ultrathin Li Metal Anodes: Quantitative Design Principles and Manufacturability Across Liquid and Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ultrathin lithium metal anodes (≤15 µm) offer a promising route to high‐energy‐density batteries due to their high capacity and low potential. This review presents design principles for ultrathin Li, evaluates fabrication strategies, and discusses challenges in liquid and solid‐state cells.
