Navigational complexity in web interactions

Proceedings of the 19th international conference on World wide web, 2010
As the web grows in size, interfaces & interactions across websites diverge - for differentiation and arguably for a better user experience. However, this size & diversity is also a cognitive load for the user who has to learn a new user interface for every new website she visits. Several studies have confirmed the importance of well designed websites.

Mining web navigations for intelligence

Decision Support Systems, 2006
The Internet is one of the fastest growing areas of intelligence gathering. We present a statistical approach, called principal clusters analysis, for analyzing millions of user navigations on the Web. This technique identifies prominent navigation clusters on different topics.

Predicting and solving web navigation problems

Proceedings of the eighteenth conference on Hypertext and hypermedia, 2007
In the first experiment we explored the ability of different objective and subjective measures to predict user's success in finding information in a website. The results indicate that the subjective measure of lostness seems to be a better predictor of task performance than any of the objective measures.

Perceptual navigation in web mining

Online Information Review, 2008
PurposeThis paper aims to present an epistemological perspective of how web mining can be performed by human agents, and a technical overview of a possible approach to achieve this.Design/methodology/approachThe concept of visual mining of information is based on the principle of creating a fused information space that could be navigated using visual ...

Predicting outcomes of web navigation

Special interest tracks and posters of the 14th international conference on World Wide Web - WWW '05, 2005
Two exploratory studies examined the relationships among web navigation metrics, measures of lostness, and success on web navigation tasks. The web metrics were based on counts of visits to web pages, properties of the web usage graph, and similarity to an optimal path. Metrics based on similarity to an optimal path were good predictors of lostness and

Social navigation in web lectures

Proceedings of the seventeenth conference on Hypertext and hypermedia, 2006
Web lectures are a form of educational content that differs from classic hypertext in a number of ways. Web lectures are easier to produce and therefore large amounts of material become accumulated in a short time. The recordings are significantly less structured than traditional web based learning content and they are time based media.
