Pre-buckling and post-buckling failure at web-flange junction of pultruded GFRP beams
Materials and Structures, 2012Separation at the web-flange junction is a common failure mode of pultruded glass fiber-reinforced (GFRP) beams subjected to bending. The causes of this separation appear to depend on the presence of lateral supports to prevent lateral buckling. To clarify the driving mechanisms, four-point bending experiments were carried out on pultruded GFRP girders.

Numerical and Theoretical Modelling of the Web‐Post Buckling of Stainless Steel Cellular Beams
ce/papers, 2021AbstractCellular steel beams are widely used in modern constructions to achieve long spans and to provide passage for service installations such as ducts and cables. The present paper is concerned with the use of stainless steel in cellular beams. In fact, available design methods to calculate the shear strength of web‐post are applicable only to ...

Shear buckling strength of web-posts in castellated steel beams in fire
Engineering Structures, 2020Abstract Most existing formulations for determining shear strength due to web-post buckling by shear (WPBS) in castellated steel beams depend on many variables, are not applicable to fire situation or do not have a normative approach. In order to provide a simpler and more practical formulation, also applicable to the fire situation, this study ...

Buckling of Web Posts in Perforated Beams
Journal of the Structural Division, 1981The buckling of the web post is investigated for steel I-beams containing adjacent rectangular web openings, and a method is presented for determining the buckling moment. An expression is derived for the effective buckling length of a web post, and its validity is demonstrated by means of tests on scale models.

A Numerical Model for Post-Buckling Analysis of Composite Shear Webs
Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, 2010This paper presents a detailed numerical investigation of the post-buckling behavior of composite shear webs using the finite element method. The numerical analysis accounts for material and geometric non-linearity effects and has been divided into three steps.

Web Yielding, Crippling, and Lateral Buckling under Post Loading
Journal of Structural Engineering, 2007Unstiffened, unbraced steel beams used in bridge falsework are subjected to patch loads from timber or steel posts. This paper investigates the critical web limit states in these types of beams experimentally and through finite-element analysis. Existing equations were appropriate for calculating the web yielding and crippling capacity, as observed in ...

An experimental and numerical analysis for the post-buckling behavior of composite shear webs
Composite Structures, 2011This paper presents a detailed experimental and numerical investigation on the structural behavior of stiffened composite panels subjected to in-plane shear loads. The experimental work includes the development of a test device for post-buckling analyses of laminated panels subjected to shear loads.

Fatigue resistance of post-buckled slender trapezoidal corrugated webs in girders with stiff flanges
Engineering Structures, 2019Abstract Slender trapezoidal corrugated web does generally possess notable post-buckling capacity with certain reserve of shear resistance. Repeated secondary bending stresses due to post-buckling at the boundaries of the subpanel of the trapezoidal corrugated web, however, may result in potential local fatigue failure.

Comparison on Calculation Method for Post-Buckling Strength of Thin-Webbed I-Shape Member
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014The thin-webbed I-shaped members are used as the basic members for beams and columns of steel buildings in order to increase utilization ratio of steel. The local buckling can occur for these members because of the large width-thickness ratio and these members have a substantial post-buckling strength which can be used.
