Multi modal multi-semantic image retrieval [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
PhDThe rapid growth in the volume of visual information, e.g. image, and video can overwhelm users’ ability to find and access the specific visual information of interest to them.

A Factoid Question Answering System for Vietnamese

open access: yes, 2018
In this paper, we describe the development of an end-to-end factoid question answering system for the Vietnamese language. This system combines both statistical models and ontology-based methods in a chain of processing modules to provide high-quality ...

Ethnomethodological architectures: Information systems driven by cultural and community visions [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, 2007
AbstractAs networked digital systems are rapidly created and deployed, social, cultural, and community‐focused issues are often neglected. Indeed much research has focused on the “effects” these systems hold rather than viewing systems as tools to be designed given an understanding of sociocultural context.

Harnessing Non‐Covalent Protein–Protein Interaction Domains for Production of Biocatalytic Materials Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Non‐covalent protein–protein interactions mediated by SH3, PDZ, or GBD domains enable the self‐assembly of stable and biocatalytically active hydrogel materials. These soft materials can be processed into monodisperse foams that, once dried, exhibit enhanced mechanical stability and activity and are easily integrated into microstructured flow ...

Liquid Metals as Initiators of Free‐Radical Polymerization of Hydrogels: A Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gallium‐based liquid metals initiate free radical polymerization to form hydrogels without the use of toxic molecular initiators. In addition to initiating polymerization, they can act as crosslinkers, yielding softer, more extensible, and tougher hydrogels than those formed with conventional initiators.

pplacer: linear time maximum-likelihood and Bayesian phylogenetic placement of sequences onto a fixed reference tree

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2010
Background Likelihood-based phylogenetic inference is generally considered to be the most reliable classification method for unknown sequences. However, traditional likelihood-based phylogenetic methods cannot be applied to large volumes of short reads ...

Unleashing the Power of Machine Learning in Nanomedicine Formulation Development

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A random forest machine learning model is able to make predictions on nanoparticle attributes of different nanomedicines (i.e. lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, or PLGA nanoparticles) based on microfluidic formulation parameters. Machine learning models are based on a database of nanoparticle formulations, and models are able to generate unique solutions
