Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

Effects of variability of practice in music: A pilot study on fast goal-directed movements in pianists

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2014
Variability of Practice (VOP) refers to the acquisition of a particular target movement by practicing a range of varying targets rather than by focusing on fixed repetitions of the target only.

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Weber’s Protestant Ethic Thesis in Five Steps

open access: yesAcademicus International Scientific Journal, 2019
As a result of many years of reading about and teaching Max Weber’s famous Protestant Ethic thesis, I have developed an approach to covering this material in both my undergraduate and graduate theory courses which has been beneficial to students and has ...

Scheler lecteur de "L'éthique protestante" de Weber: psychologie phénoménologique et histoire

open access: yesSíntesis. Revista de Filosofía, 2023
In this article, we develop an analysis of the relationship between intentionality and the history of capitalism based on Scheler's commentary on Max Weber's The Protestant Ethic.

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

A yeast model of 5‐oxoproline accumulation reveals a general toleration to 5‐oxoproline

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a yeast model, we show that even high accumulation of 5‐oxoproline causes only mild cellular stress and does not trigger oxidative stress. Instead, cells adapt by activating efflux pumps and diverse protective pathways, suggesting that previously proposed harmful effects of 5‐oxoproline may arise from indirect metabolic imbalances rather than the

Time‐restricted feeding prior to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection reduces tissue CD4+ T cells with limited impact on bacterial clearance

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) in mice increased liver fatty acid oxidation and decreased fatty acid biosynthesis. These alterations persisted when TRF was discontinued and the host was infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pre‐exposure to TRF did not alter tissue (lung and spleen) mycobacterial burden but significantly reduced CD3+ T cells in lungs

El descubrimiento de la democracia: La modernización y el agotamiento de la imaginación

open access: yesArbor: Ciencia, Pensamiento y Cultura, 2011
Este artículo indaga en el diagnóstico de la modernidad realizado por Alexis de Tocqueville. Su crítica del agotamiento de la imaginación en la acción colectiva, con la emergencia de la democracia moderna, subraya las contradicciones del mundo ...

Effects of IGFBP4 deficiency on human preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation through the IGF1R/AKT pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 knockdown (KD) impairs preadipocyte proliferation and is associated with IGF1R protein downregulation and attenuated AKT phosphorylation. The mechanisms by which IGFBP4 KD influences the IGF1R/AKT signaling pathway involve newly synthesized proteins and lysosomal degradation pathways. Created in BioRender.
