Inverse analysis of the wedge-splitting test
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2008The amount of information which it is possible to retrieve from the wedge-splitting test is investigated. Inverse analysis is undertaken based on the analytical hinge model for various multi-linear softening curves. This showed that the commonly used bi-linear softening curve can be replaced by an up to quad-linear curve, which is reflected by ...

Wedge Splitting Test of Foam Concrete Specimens: Calibration Curves
Key Engineering Materials, 2014In the present paper, the well-known wedge splitting test is applied on specimens made from foam concrete. In the case of this material the whole test specimens cannot be made from foam concrete but the rectangular groove, needed for the load transmission pieces, has to be made of stiffer material (typically marble). K-calibration (B1) and T-stress (B2)

Study on fracture characteristics of reinforced concrete wedge splitting tests
Computers and Concrete, 2016To study the influence on fracture properties of reinforced concrete wedge splitting test specimens by the addition of reinforcement, and the restriction of steel bars on crack propagation, 7 groups reinforced concrete specimens of different reinforcement position and 1 group plain concrete specimens with the same size factors were designed and ...

Wedge Splitting Test and Fracture Energy on Particulate Reinforced Composites
Transactions of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers A,

The wedge splitting test, a new method of performing stable fracture mechanics tests
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1990Abstract The wedge splitting test is a new test method to perform stable fracture mechanics tests on concrete and concrete-like materials. Specific fracture energy G F as well as fracture toughness K Ic are determined using simple specimens like cubes or cylinders.

NON-TRADITIONAL GEOMETRY FOR WEDGE-SPLITTING TEST
2021The wedge-splitting test is widely used in the testing of fracture mechanical parameters of concrete or concrete-like materials. This test provides a stable crack propagation, which was analysed on a cube specimen. Another interesting application for measuring fracture mechanical properties combines wedge-splitting test with a three-point bending test.

Wedge-splitting tests for tensile strength and fracture toughness of concrete
Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 2018Abstract This study presents a new approach for determination of tensile strength ft and fracture toughness KIC of concrete using wedge-splitting (WS) specimens as neither property can be easily measured because of the heterogeneous material structures. The Boundary Effect Model (BEM) was extended to WS geometry and relevant equations were derived so

Numerical evaluation of cohesive fracture parameters from a wedge splitting test
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2002Abstract Direct determination of the parameters describing the popular cohesive crack model from experimental results, such as would be obtained from standard three-point bending or wedge splitting tests, poses a challenging problem. This paper describes a numerical method for obtaining key fracture parameters describing the softening behavior of ...

Fatigue crack growth of high-strength concrete in wedge-splitting test
Cement and Concrete Research, 1999In this study, a wedge-splitting testing was carried out for the investigation of fatigue crack growth behavior of high strength concrete. Selected test variables were concrete compressive strength (28, 60, and 118 MPa) and stress ratio (6, 13%). In order to apply the target stress ratio, the maximum and the minimum fatigue loadings were 75–85 and 5–10%
