Analyzing of Wedge Splitting Test on Asphalt Pavement Using Optical Measurements

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2017
Abstract This paper dealt with the characterization of opening mode fracture using Digital Image Correlation, coupled with a kinematic approach. Tests were carried out using a Wedge Splitting sample made in asphalt concrete AC12. The asphalt concrete was provided in the RILEM-SIB.

Wedge splitting test on fracture behaviour of ultra high strength concrete

Construction and Building Materials, 2004
The fracture behaviour of ultra high strength concrete (UHSC) with axial compressive strength more than 140 MPa is presented in this paper. Based on the wedge splitting tests with six cubical specimens, the fracture behaviour of UHSC with and without coarse aggregates is investigated.

Two Parameter Description of Crack Tip Stress Fields for Wedge Splitting Test Specimen: Influence of Wedge Angle

Advanced Materials Research, 2014
Two parameter fracture mechanics uses for description of the crack tip stress fields, not only the stress intensity factor (SIF), but the second term of Williams expansion the T-stress. In the paper, the SIF and T-stress of typical wedge splitting specimens with usual loading arrangements varying in the wedge angle are directly computed using ANSYS ...

Wedge Splitting Test on Douglas genotypes using an integrated mixed-mode approach

Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 2017
Abstract The objective of this study is to estimate the influence of mixed mode on the global fracture energy. The experimental tests were carried out using three Douglas genotypes. In order to evaluate the fracture parameters the Wedge Splitting Tests were performed.

Friction and plasticity effects in wedge splitting and cutting fracture tests

Journal of Materials Science, 1998
An analysis is given for determining G for removing a thin layer using a wedge. Corrections are described for both friction and the plastic bending of the layer. Experimental results are analysed for adhesive joints and for cutting tests on polymers and biological materials. In all of these the fracture toughness could be found.

Double-Edge Wedge Splitting Test: Preliminary Results

2010
A new technique to identify the residual strength in the post-cracking regime has been developed at the Politecnico di Milano for thin-walled Fibre Cementitious Composite structures. The idea is that to spatially uncouple compressive stresses from tensile stresses in an indirect tensile test, close to Brazilian test, by introducing only a mode I crack ...

Tensile behaviour of magnesia-spinel refractories: Comparison of tensile and wedge splitting tests

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2013
In some industrial applications, the need to improve the thermal shock resistance of refractories by optimisation of their microstructural design is of major importance. Refractories with enhanced thermal shock resistance usually present a rather low resistance to crack initiation but high resistance to crack propagation (rising R-curves), as well as a

Influence of Defects on Reinforced Concrete Fracture Performance in Improved Wedge Splitting Tests

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2018
Abstract To predict the crack propagation and failure response of reinforced concrete structure, the effect of defects on reinforced concrete fracture characteristics was investigated. Based on the improved wedge splitting test device (an authorized patent No. ZL201410085111.7, China), specimens with various defects were tested.

T-STRESS VALUES DURING FRACTURE IN WEDGE SPLITTING TEST GEOMETRIES: A NUMERICAL STUDY

2009
The paper is focused on a detailed numerical analysis of the stress field in specimens used for the wedge splitting test (WST), which is a convenient alternative to the classical bending and tensile tests within the area of determination of the fracture-mechanical parameters of quasi-brittle building materials, particularly cementitious composites. The
