ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH REDUCING THE USE OF ATRAZINE: AN EXAMPLE OF CROSS-DISCIPLINARY RESEARCH [PDF]

open access: yes
Restricting or eliminating the use of atrazine in the Midwest would have important economic consequences for farmers, consumers, and the environment. These consequences can only be evaluated with cooperation between economists and weed scientists.

Revisiting the taxonomy and nomenclature of Phyla, a small genus of Verbenaceae

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Phyla is unique within Verbenaceae due to the presence of malpighiaceous hairs. Its taxonomy has long been marked by difficulties in defining species boundaries. The most recent revision of the genus recognized five species and three varieties. In this study, however, we recognize only two species and no varieties: P.

Synthesis and biological profile of 2,3-dihydro[1,3]thiazolo[4,5-b]pyridines, a novel class of acyl-ACP thioesterase inhibitors

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry
The present work covers novel herbicidal lead structures that contain a 2,3-dihydro[1,3]thiazolo[4,5-b]pyridine scaffold as structural key feature carrying a substituted phenyl side chain. These new compounds show good acyl-ACP thioesterase inhibition in

Chemical and biological controls and soil amendments for plant‐parasitic nematode management

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, EarlyView.
This review synthesizes sustainable strategies for managing plant‐parasitic nematodes, emphasizing eco‐friendly biocontrol agents and soil amendments. It critically evaluates the impacts of chemical nematicides on nontarget soil organisms and advocates integrated approaches to enhance soil health, crop productivity, and agricultural sustainability ...

Synergistic effect of ZIF‐8 nanomaterial on 2,4‐D efficacy by regulating auxin synthesis pathway in barnyard grass [Echinochloa crus‐galli (L.) P. Beauv.]

open access: yesNew Plant Protection, EarlyView.
ZIF‐8 exhibited a synergistic effect on 2,4‐D efficacy against barnyard grass by regulation of auxin synthesis pathway, as well as the synergistic regulation of metabolic pathways involving 2,4‐D and ZIF‐8. Furthermore, the use of ZIF‐8 as a carrier could improve the safety of 2,4‐D for wheat.

Robotic weeding and automated weed measurements

open access: yes, 2003
The goal of decreasing herbicide usage has so far focused on reducing the herbicide dosage or replacing chemical weed control by hoeing and harrowing. The conventional weed control strategy is to apply the same dose of herbicide or the same intensity of hoeing and harrowing in the whole field.
