Effect of bio‐fertilization and edapho‐climatic conditions on chickpea nodulation, grain yields, and seed protein in a Mediterranean context: a meta‐analysis approach

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Chickpeas (Cicer arietinum L.) serve as a protein‐rich staple, particularly in Mediterranean countries, where they are often grown in marginal and water‐stressed areas. This meta‐analysis synthesized evidence from peer‐reviewed publications across Mediterranean countries to assess how chickpea rhizobial inoculation influences chickpea ...

A Dynamic Optimisation Model of Weed Control

open access: yes
It is argued in this paper that static approaches to weed management, where the benefits and costs are only considered within a single season, are inappropriate for assessing the economic benefits of weed control technologies. There are carryover effects

Is quinoa‐farming sustainable in marginal environments? Social, economical and environmental aspects

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) is an Andean grain crop introduced as a novel crop to many parts of the world in recent years. Recognized for nutritious seeds and high abiotic stress tolerance, it has been promoted as an element of climate‐resilient agriculture, particularly in marginal environments.

Physiological dominance of the scion in shaping root architecture under suboptimal temperature

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Non‐optimal temperatures have become a major constraint on plant development under rapidly changing climatic conditions. Both suboptimal and supra‐optimal temperatures reduce physiological activity, alter plant morphology, lead to plant mortality, and ultimately decrease crop productivity.

RIMPhil: a bioeconomic model for integrated weed management of annual barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli) in Philippine rice farming systems

open access: yes
This paper describes a complex, dynamic simulation model that has been developed for the analysis of integrated weed management programmes for the control of annual barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli) in rice farming systems in the Philippines.

Impact of Soil Burial Depths on Survival of Weedy Rice Seeds: Implications for Weed Management

open access: yes
Weedy rice (Oryza sativa f. spontanea) is a noxious weed infesting rice fields worldwide and causes great yield losses for cultivated rice. Effective management of this weed is essential for the world’s rice production. Yet, the management of weedy

Little penguins select more isolated nest boxes for breeding, but lay date influences breeding success

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We determined that more isolated and possibly older nest boxes were selected by little penguins for breeding at Pōhatu/Flea Bay, New Zealand. However, breeding success was influenced by lay date in comparison to nest box characteristics. These findings inform immediate conservation recommendations regarding nest box design and placement.

Impacts of Climate Change on Food Security: Land Management–Based Strategies Within a Nature‐Based Solutions Framework

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Climate change poses serious threats to food security by affecting agricultural production processes in multiple ways. This study aims to analyze land management–based solution strategies that can be developed in response to this threat and presents a systematic and holistic framework through the relationship these strategies establish with ...
