Weighing the options: a test of alternative stomatal optimisation models at high temperatures
Summary Stomatal optimisation models centre upon a fundamental tradeoff for plants: opening stomata promotes carbon uptake, but closing stomata prevents water loss. However, stomatal opening can occur at high temperatures, causing evaporative cooling which limits thermal damage to leaves.

ABSTRACT Increasingly variable climate conditions are affecting crop production, leading to greater yield fluctuations, which in turn are impacting global food security. Introducing alleles from regions where the expected stress conditions occur, so‐called exotic alleles, could serve as a means to mitigate these effects. We examined the value of exotic

Potassium silicate can decrease the uptake of sodium (Na+) into wheat cells by affecting the Na+ uptake channels and increasing ion homeostasis. Abstract Salinity causes negative impacts on crops. We investigated the effect of potassium silicate (K2SiO3) on the cytosolic uptake of sodium, [Na+]cyt, in mesophyll protoplasts of wheat cultivars differing ...

ABSTRACT Administrative burdens are deliberate policy choices, as governments can proactively design rules and procedures to shape burdens experienced by citizens. While existing research has examined the effects of burden reduction strategies, less is known about the factors driving burden reduction actions at the local level.

Abstract Introduction Juvenile coral reef fish face an initial predation‐induced mortality bottleneck with mortality exceeding 60% within 48 hours of settlement. This intense predation, exacerbated by anthropogenic stressors, limits recruitment and contributes to global declines of reef fish populations. Post‐Larval Capture, Culture, and Release (PCCR),

Food Gifting and Household Food Security
ABSTRACT Food gifting provides an important means of risk sharing in agrarian economies where farming households have limited access to formal credit and insurance markets. Food gifting is also an important source of food for households that are struggling with food scarcity.
