The Early and Middle Weichselian in Norway: a review

Boreas, 1981
All Known sites with fossils and ‘non‐till sediments’ of possible Early and Middle Weichselian age in Norway are discussed. Along the west coast there are many sites marine shells which have been dated by means of radiocarbon, amino acids and thorium/uranium methods. Some sites are also correlated by means of underlying Eemian sequences.

The British moss flora of the Weichselian glacial

Review of Palaeobotany and Palynology, 1967
Abstract Macroscopic remains of about 115 species of mosses have been recovered from British deposits of the last glaciation. The deposits investigated come from all periods, the most important being Sidgwick Avenue (Cambridge) Early Weichselian, Chelford (Cheshire) 57,000 years B.P., Upton Warren (Worcestershire) 42,000 years B.P., Fladbury ...

THE LATE WEICHSELIAN SEQUENCE IN THE VALE OF YORK

Proceedings of the Yorkshire Geological Society, 1970
Summary Three recent radiocarbon dates can be used to provide an outline chronology and correlation for a sequence of late Weichselian and early Flandrian environments in the Vale of York.

Periglacial microjointing and faulting in Weichselian fluvio‐aeolian deposits

Journal of Quaternary Science, 1993
AbstractA Weichselian Late Pleniglacial fluvio‐aeolian deposit has been investigated in the southern Netherlands. Three main structural lineaments have been distinguished: (1) very small, vertical platy structures (microjoints), in a parallel and a columnar configuration; (2) large joints and normal faults with minor displacement (‘Grubbenvorst type’),

A Middle Weichselian deposit at Halling, Kent

Proceedings of the Geologists' Association, 1971
Abstract A periglacial deposit of loessic character at Halling, Kent, is described, and an analysis made of its molluscan fauna. The deposit is stratigraphically earlier than zone I of the Late Weichselian. The fauna suggests that an interstadial of the Middle Weichselian may be represented.

Weichselian glaciation of the Taymyr Peninsula, Siberia

2004
During recent years there has been a re-assessment of the glacial history of the Russian Arctic, from the Kola Peninsula in the west to the Lena Delta and beyond in the east. In this context, work has been carried out on the northwestern and central parts of the Taymyr Peninsula.

Eemian and Weichselian correlation problems in Finland

Boreas, 1984
The Quaternary stratigraphy in Finland is discussed on the basis of an example from the Oulainen area of Ostrobothnia. Organogenic deposits found beneath till at this site are correlated with the Eemian Interglacial on biostratigraphical evidence. This is confirmed by TL dates of 97,000 ± 18,000 B.P.

Late Weichselian geology of southernmost Sweden

Boreas, 1988
The area of study is strategically placed 250–500 km inside the border of the Weichselian glaciation. The low relief of the area, the surrounding of a shallow sea and the varying bedrock have all influenced the physical nature of the ice. Different methods, including analyses of reworked microfossils, have been used to produce a new informal ...

Early Weichselian peat at Brumunddal, southeastern Norway

Boreas, 1981
Stratigraphical investigations of an inter‐till peat in Brumunddal suggest a major interstadial of Early Weichselian age. The insect fauna and the pollen composition indicate a mean July temperature 2–3d̀C lower than today during the climatic optimum.

Thermoluminescence dates of Weichselian sediments in western Norway

Boreas, 1989
Thermoluminescence dating has been carried out on feldspar sand grains from the distal sandur of the Godøya Formation and correlated sediments at Sunnmøre, western Norway. The accumulated dose was determined by the regeneration method. The Godøya Formation, which was earlier assumed to be of Middle Weichselian age, was dated to 105–130 ka and is now ...
