Weight bearing: its lack of effect on fracture healing

International Orthopaedics, 1983
The load transmitted through fresh fractures of the tarsometatarsus of adult chickens was varied by 40% more, or less, than the body weight to determine the effect of load-bearing on fracture healing. The healing fracture was examined for size and strength at 14 days, but no significant differences were detected in any group.

Collagen fibrils are differently organized in weight-bearing and not-weight-bearing regions of pig articular cartilage

Journal of Experimental Zoology, 2000
The magnetic resonance (MR) appearance of the weight-bearing ("loaded") and not-weight-bearing ("unloaded") regions in T(2)-weighted images of pig articular cartilage is different. On the hypothesis that this difference may be ascribed, at least in part, to a different collagen fibre organization in the two regions, this organization was studied using ...

Weight-Bearing Radiography in Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Radiology, 1970
Abstract Weight-bearing anteroposterior roentgenograms, essential in diagnosing osteoarthritis of the knee, should be a part of routine roentgenographic examination of the arthritic knee. The weight-bearing roentgenograms often show narrowing of the affected joint surface in addition to a varus or valgus deformity when the nonweight-bearing ...

Early weight bearing of malleolar fractures

Acta Orthopaedica Scandinavica, 1986
A prospective randomized investigation of early versus late weight bearing in 46 patients with fracture of the lateral malleolus was performed. In 43/46 patients an exact operative reconstruction of the ankle mortise could be achieved using pins, staples and cerclage (Cedell, 1967).

Tibiofemoral Joint-Surface Motions in Weight-Bearing and Non-Weight-Bearing Movement

Journal of Sport Rehabilitation, 2003
Context:Analyses of the path of instant center of rotation (PICR) can be used to infer joint-surface rolling and sliding motion (arthrokinematics). Previous PICR research has not quantified arthrokinematics during weight-bearing (WB) movement conditions or studied the association of muscle activity with arthrokinematics. Objective:To examine ...
