Nowadays, the number of comorbidities (physical-physical, mental-mental, physical-mental) is growing fast. The potential network structure of highly related diseases could be revealed and found by several approaches with the concept of disease network, such as Weighted Alternating Least Squares (WALS). The 2012 medical history of the Health Examination

Radio astronomy below 30 MHz has never been properly performed because the ionosphere inhibits this on Earth. The Orbiting Low-Frequency Antennas for Radio Astronomy (OLFAR) project is aimed at building a radio telescope consisting of 50 or more nano-satellites in space, forming a swarm-like array.

Weighted Total Least-Squares (WTLS) can optimally solve the issue of parameter estimation in the Errors-In-Variables (EIV) model; however, this method is relatively sensitive to outliers that may exist in the observation vector and/or the coefficient matrix.

Multispectral Fusion of RGB and NIR Images Using Weighted Least Squares and Alternating Guidance
ICASSP 2020 - 2020 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2020In low light condition, color (RGB) images captured by camera contain much noise and loss of details and color. However, near infrared (NIR) images are robust to noise and have clear textures without color. In this paper, we propose multi-spectral fusion of RGB and NIR images using weighted least squares (WLS) and alternating guidance.

An Alternating Least Squares Method for the Weighted Approximation of a Symmetric Matrix
Psychometrika, 1993Bailey and Gower examined the least squares approximation C to a symmetric matrix B, when the squared discrepancies for diagonal elements receive specific nonunit weights. They focussed on mathematical properties of the optimal C, in constrained and unconstrained cases, rather than on how to obtain C for any given B.

An alternating minimization weighted least squares reconstruction algorithm
1997 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record, 2002In this paper, the authors introduce a new iterative algorithm for reconstructing positron emission tomography (PET) images. This algorithm seeks to minimize an objective function of weighted least squares (WLS) type. However, unlike conventional WLS methods, the weights do not need to be estimated from the data, but are incorporated in the objective ...

Three-Way Metric Unfolding Via Alternating Weighted Least Squares
Psychometrika, 1985Three-way unfolding was developed by DeSarbo (1978) and reported in DeSarbo and Carroll (1980, 1981) as a new model to accommodate the analysis of two-mode three-way data (e.g., nonsymmetric proximities for stimulus objects collected over time) and three-mode, three-way data (e.g., subjects rendering preference judgments for various stimuli in ...
