Prepregnancy weight, weight gain, and birth weight

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1986
The effect of maternal weight gain on birth weight in 2946 live births with delivery after 37 weeks' gestation was studied at Moffitt Hospital, University of California (San Francisco), between September, 1980, and December, 1983. The sample was stratified into four categories according to prepregnancy weight for height with use of a body mass index ...

Weighted Pseudoinverses with Singular Weights

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1971
Summary: This paper develops a singular weighted pseudoinverse which generalizes the product generalized inverse of a matrix. A condition to insure uniqueness of this pseudoinverse and a computational formula are obtained.

Internalized Weight Bias, Weight‐Related Experiences, And Peripartum Weight

Journal of Midwifery & Women's Health, 2023
IntroductionThe purpose of this study was to investigate internalized weight bias (IWB) and its relationship with pregnancy‐related weight changes and postpartum depression. IWB is defined as the internalization of negative attitudes and beliefs about people due to their weight.

Beta Weights, Unit Weights, and other Weights

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1987
A simple example of the use of different weights with just two predictors was presented. The replacement of the beta weights by unit weights resulted in a very slight loss of predictive validity, and even the arbitrary reversal of the beta weights resulted in a smaller loss than might have been expected. A relationship demonstrated by Green was used to

Weight to Place on Birth Weight

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1983
ABSTRACT Most of our knowledge about the correlates of birth weight and perinatal morbidity derives from studies done more than a decade ago. Thus, the effort by Hackman et al to identify previously unrecognized predictors of birth weight and unfavorable pregnancy outcome, reported in this issue of The Journal (p 2016), deserves attention.

On weighting clustering

IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 2006
Recent papers and patents in iterative unsupervised learning have emphasized a new trend in clustering. It basically consists of penalizing solutions via weights on the instance points, somehow making clustering move toward the hardest points to cluster.
