On-line learning of welding bead geometry in industrial robots

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2015
In this paper, we propose an architecture based on an artificial neural network (ANN), to learn welding skills automatically in industrial robots. With the aid of an optic camera and a laser-based sensor, the bead geometry (width and height) is measured.

Optimization of the FCAW process by weld bead geometry analysis

Welding International, 2009
The flux cored arc welding process has grown in use in recent times as a function of its characteristics of high rate of deposition, associated with suitable mechanical properties in the welded joint. However, many aspects still remain obscure in regard to greater utilization of this process.

A study on the prediction of bead geometry in the robotic welding system

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2007
The gas metal are (GMA) welding is one of the most widely-used processes in metal joining process that involves the melting and solidification of the joined materials. To solve this problem, we have carried out the sequential experiment based on a Taguchi method and identified the various problems that result from the robotic GMA welding process to ...

Determining penetration from topside weld bead and weld pool geometry in PGMAW

Science and Technology of Welding and Joining, 2005
Finding suitable characteristic parameters of topside weld pool to reflect the penetration is a key work in weld shape control. In this paper, by analysing the molten metal volume, the relationship between topside weld bead shape and penetration in pulsed gas metal arc welding (PGMAW) is revealed, and then several weld bead characteristic parameters ...

Fuzzy Logic Approach to Modeling Weld Bead Geometry in ARC Welding

International Journal of Innovative Science and Research Technology
Weld joint quality depends on welding process settings. High-quality welds need controlled input settings. This study looks at four input settings: arc speed, wire feed to travel speed ratio, wire feed rate, and eccentricity. Tests used a full factorial design on a mild steel joint. Bead penetration, height, and width were measured. Fuzzy logic created

Investigation On the Effect of Process Parameters On Weld Bead Geometry in TIG Welding

2021
TIG welding is most vital and common operation used for joining of two similar or dissimilar parts with heating the material or applying the pressure by using the filler material for increasing productivity with less time and cost constrain. When changing the welding parameters, the quality, strength and weld bead geometry also affected.

Influence of Flux Basicity on Weld Bead Geometry and HAZ in Submerged Arc Welding

Indian Welding Journal, 1991
Weld bead geometry and heat affected zone which are generally dependent on the welding parameters may also be influenced by the chemical composition of flux i.e. the flux base and its basicity in submerged arc welding. The different flux constituents which impart different physical/chemical properties to the flux may also affect the weld bead geometry ...

Weld Bead Geometry Prediction of Additive Manufacturing Based on Neural Network

2018 11th International Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Design (ISCID), 2018
Due to the large number of welding process parameters and the model output parameters, the prediction result of weld bead geometry using neural network in wire and arc welding test is not ideal. Therefore, multi-population genetic algorithm is introduced to optimize the initial weights and threshold of neural network in this paper, and this can avoid ...

Modeling of weld bead geometry for rapid manufacturing by robotic GMAW

International Journal of Modern Physics B, 2015
Weld-based rapid prototyping (RP) has shown great promises for fabricating 3D complex parts. During the layered deposition of forming metallic parts with robotic gas metal arc welding, the geometry of a single weld bead has an important influence on surface finish quality, layer thickness and dimensional accuracy of the deposited layer.
