Numerical Investigations on Residual Stress in Laser Penetration Welding Process of Ultrafine-Grained Steel

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
Weld solidification crack prevention in the laser penetration welding process is essential for the strength of the welded component. The formation of solidification cracks can ultimately be attributed to welding residual stresses, and preventive measures

Sono‐Piezo‐Photosynthesis of Ethylene and Acetylene from Bioethanol under Ambient Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel sono‐piezo‐photocatalytic strategy enables the conversion of bioethanol to ethylene (C2H4) and acetylene (C2H2) under ambient conditions, addressing the limitations of conventional methods that are high‐temperature and energy‐intensive. By using an advanced graphene oxide/sodium bismuth titanate heterostructure catalyst, this work achieved ...

Phase transformation and flow simulation of weld pools at the crack tips of elbows under pulsed current

open access: yesYou-qi chuyun
ObjectiveIn the base metal repair for elbows using pulsed currents, detour flow typically occurs at the crack tips, resulting in the formation of weld pools due to local temperature increases.

A Markov's theorem for extended welded braids and links [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Extended welded links are a generalization of Fenn, Rim\'{a}nyi, and Rourke's welded links. Their braided counterpart are extended welded braids, which are closely related to ribbon braids and loop braids. In this paper we prove versions of Alexander and Markov's theorems for extended welded braids and links, following Kamada's approach to the case of ...

Multiwire submerged arc welding of steel structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The assembly of large structures made out of thick steel plates requires a welding process by which multiple wires can be used simultaneously. To reproduce these industrial processes in a research environment, OCAS has invested in a multiwire submerged ...

Marangoni driven turbulence in high energy surface melting processes

open access: yes, 2016
Experimental observations of high-energy surface melting processes, such as laser welding, have revealed unsteady, often violent, motion of the free surface of the melt pool.

Iridium Oxide Inverse Opal Anodes with Tailored Porosity for Efficient PEM Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis of Iridium‐based Inverse Opals (Ir‐IO) is reported as electrocatalyst for Proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEM‐WE). Using the developed protocol it produces highly porous materials consisting either of metallic, oxidic Iridium or a combination thereof with large surface areas.

Historical overview on Vacuum suitable Welding and fatigue resistance in Research Devices [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
New inventions change the approach of vacuum suitable welding for research purpose. With orbital welding, laser welding and robot welding the possibilities increase to fabricate larger vessels more accurately. Despite this development there is still no perfect understanding on how to avoid virtual leaks and how to make such joints suitable for dynamic ...

Influence of Hysteresis on Magnetocaloric Performance at Cryogenic Temperatures: A Tb3Ni Case Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The existence of an inverse magnetocaloric effect in metamagnetic materials at cryogenic temperatures is investigated using multiple methods. Contrary to predictions from magnetization data, neither specific heat nor pulsed‐field measurements show such a cooling effect, instead indicating irreversible heating.
