Dislocation model of the formation of a welded joint in cold welding

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2021
Abstract The dislocation model of welding joint formation during the process of cold welding is proposed. The relations were obtained and the estimated grade of tendency of a number of metals to cold welding was performed on the grounds of the hypothesis of active centers limiting sizes.

Weld formation control for arc welding robot

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2008
The control of weld formation in gas tungsten arc welding is required for “teach and playback” robot to suit the gap variation in the multi-pass welding process. This paper presents a robotic system based on the real-time vision measurement. A close-loop control system is developed for weld formation control in backing welding. A novel prediction model

Weld defect formation in rail thermite welds

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part F: Journal of Rail and Rapid Transit, 2006
A previously developed heat transfer model is used to study the influence of welding parameters on weld defect development in thermite welds. Weld defect formation maps are constructed from a series of heat transfer simulations. For the current normal rail thermite welding conditions, it is found that shrinkage cavity formation can be avoided but cold-

Wave formation in explosive welding

Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 1973
A hypothetical analogy between wave formation in explosive welding and the Karman vortex street is analyzed, and the physical laws of the wave formation process are investigated.

Formation of Seam and Charge Welds in 2D Extrusion Welding

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011
The conditions of extrusion welding when extruding through an empty or a filled die is investigated by experiment combined by FEA. An experimental grid pattern technique has been successfully applied to study metal flow in both cases. Finite element models have been created using Deform 2D and 3D.

Effect of welding speed on weld formation in electron beam welding with continuous penetration

Welding International, 2014
Investigations were carried out into the conditions of free formation of welded joints in electron beam welding in the flat position with continuous penetration, and also into the dynamic model of the discharge of liquid metal of the weld pool from the root in which the metal moves downwards at a higher speed in the initial stage; but during movement ...

Impact welding and ripple formation

Journal of Applied Physics, 1975
Rippled metallic surfaces have been produced as a result of ballistic impact as well as the movement of high-pressure (explosive) gas over a metal plate. Such loading conditions produce a strong shock wave. Under the high pressure, metal plate surfaces are plastically deformed and sometimes are welded together. These welds are sometimes associated with

Numerical simulation of the formation of hourglass welds during laser welding

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2019
Abstract The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of laser welding parameters on the formation of hourglass shaped welds in low carbon steel. Transient laser welding is modeled in ANSYS to simulate the coupled heat-transfer/fluid-flow behavior that produces corresponding hourglass shaped melt pool geometry.

Experimental investigation of weld pool formation in electron beam welding

Vacuum, 1998
Abstract The energy transfer mechanism from an electron beam to a metal target, weld pool and keyhole of formation during electron beam welding was studied using a collector for secondary emitted particles, light photo diodes and CCD techniques. The physical processes in the welding pool and plasma cavity are discussed. It is shown that the nature of
