Formation of thermoelectric currents in weld pools

CLEO/Europe. 2005 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe, 2005., 2006
The aim of this presentation is to point to the possible origins of thermoelectric currents and to calculate the current distribution in different materials as iron and aluminium on the base of an analytical solution of the problem. As the current distribution is known, the resulting Lorentz force for a static magnetic field is discussed with respect ...

The chemistry of TIG weld bead formation

Welding International, 2015
TIG welding has high levels of stability and permits more refined control than the majority of other arc welding processes. However, it is well known that small changes in the chemical composition of the base metal and arc operating region can have a pronounced effect on the resulting weld bead shape, which reduces the ability to control and predict ...

The mechanics of wave formation in explosive welding

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1967
Strong bonds can be produced by the explosive welding process and usually the weld interface has a characteristic wavy form. In this paper the mechanism of explosive welding is discussed, the present theories of wave formation are critically examined and a new mechanism of wave formation is proposed.

Influence of Welding Current on Formation of Weld Bead in TIG Welding for Joining Thin Plates

Advanced Engineering Forum, 2018
In this paper, a new (novel) welding technology has been applied to join 0.1 mm thin plates. An initial study on the influence of welding current on the welding properties for stainless steel SUS304 plates is discussed in this paper. The weld bead appearance on both top surface and bottom surface was observed by microscope to indicate the change of ...

Mechanism of Weld Formation during Friction Stir Welding of Aluminum Alloy

Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2013
The present work aims at identification of process parameters for sound weld and to understand the mechanism of material matrix movement and weld formation in friction stir welding (FSW) of aluminum alloy. FSW experiments were conducted on 6 mm thick AA6061-T6 plates using various rotational and welding speeds.

The mechanics of wave formation in impact welding

The Philosophical Magazine: A Journal of Theoretical Experimental and Applied Physics, 1975
Abstract If two metal plates are brought together at a sufficiently high relative velocity, a jet may form which removes much of the surface impurities, and a strong bond occurs. The purpose of this paper is to decribe the formation of a wave interface, and to suggest why a bond often occurs without the appearance of such waves.
