The present essential models and some theories were applied to explain the wavy phenomenon, microstructure and mechanical properties of the characteristic joint area. Two phenomena occurring in the plate collision zone during welding were carefully tested. These phenomena were connected with forming the wavy joint surface and the interpass.

The Jointing of Materials by Welding
The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1936This is a subject which during recent years has aroused considerable interest in all industries and particularly in the aircraft industry and a large amount of investigation work has been carried out. In some industries, both light and heavy, the growth of welding as a “ production tool ” has been phenomenal, and the same growth is at the present time ...

Inadequate clearance can affect weld quality and efficiency. In extreme cases, obstructions may cause a lack of fusion between the base metal and the weld metal, causing a reduction in strength. Although flux cored arc welding (FCAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW) have replaced shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) as the primary fabrication processes ...

Abstract This article describes the applications, methods, and limitations of five principal nondestructive test methods, namely, penetrant testing, magnetic-particle testing, eddy current testing, radiographic testing, and ultrasonic testing. The article also provides guidance for the method selection for respective applications.
