Refill friction stir spot welding of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets: metallurgical features, microstructure, texture and mechanical properties

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
In the present study, 1 mm-thick AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets were joined by refill friction stir spot welding. The metallurgical features, microstructure, texture and mechanical response of the spot-welded joints were investigated.

Update of "Biquandles of Small Size and some Invariants of Virtual and Welded Knots" [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
In this paper we give the results of a computer search for biracks of small size and we give various interpretations of these findings. The list includes biquandles, racks and quandles together with new invariants of welded knots and examples of welded knots which are shown to be non-trivial by the new invariants.

Multifunctional Neural Probes Enable Bidirectional Electrical, Optical, and Chemical Recording and Stimulation In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Convergence drawing is used to create flexible, microscale, multifunctional fiber‐based neural probes. Optimized materials selection enables individual devices to perform neural recording, electrical stimulation, optogenetics, fiber photometry, fluid delivery, and voltammetric neurotransmitter detection in rodents.

The influence of welding parameters on weld characteristics in electric arc stud welding

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2008
In this paper the influence of welding parameters on weld geometry during stud welding (Drawn Arc Welding process with ceramic ferule) on steel plate and pipe is analyzed as a variation of weld penetration. Also, the changes of weld characteristics are certified trough measurements of HV0, 2 across the weld joint, and analysis of hardened zone.

A Bio‐Inspired Perspective on Materials Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective discusses natural materials as inspiration for sustainable engineering designs and the processing of materials. First, circularity, longevity, parsimony, and activity are presented as essential material paradigms. The perspective then uses many examples of natural and technical materials to introduce principles such as oligo ...

The relation between residual stress, interfacial structure and the joint property in the SiO2f/SiO2-Nb joints

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
In order to achieve a high-quality joint between SiO2f/SiO2 and metals, it is necessary to address the poor wettability of SiO2f/SiO2 and the high residual stress in SiO2f/SiO2-Nb joint.

Nonlocal Conduction in a Metawire

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 13, April 2, 2025.
A 1D metawire composed of twisted copper wires is designed and realized. This metamaterial exhibits pronounced effects of nonlocal electric conduction according to Ohm's law. The current at one location not only depends on the electric field at that location but also on other locations.

Enhancement in hardness and corrosion resistance of directed energy deposited 17–4 PH martensitic stainless steel via heat treatment

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Directed energy deposition (DED) process involves complex cyclic reheating and rapid cooling, which probably lead to differences in microstructure and corrosion resistance from the wrought alloys. In the present study, the pitting corrosion resistance of
