Process Enhancement of Calcium Looping through Combined Mechanical and Chemical Sorbent Reactivation

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
Remilling—mechanical and chemical reactivation via wet milling after each cycle in the calcium looping process—boosts CO2 capture by 2–3 times, enhances sorbent properties, and reduces deactivation and replacement rates, as confirmed by physicochemical characterization and supported by a semiempirical model.

Influence of environment and mineralogy on euendolithic microboring patterns

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
Field experiments at Little Ambergris Cay reveal that euendolithic microorganisms preferentially bore carbonate substrates based on mineralogy, sea water saturation and trace metal content. Results highlight night‐time dissolution activity and mineralogical preferences, shedding light on the ecological and evolutionary drivers of bioerosion and their ...

Analysis of squeezing‐induced failure in a water tunnel and measure of rehabilitation: A case study of Tishreen tunnel, Syria

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Different failure modes observed in Tishreen tunnel include Floor heave, wall spalling, crashing of slab, and lining convergence reaching the failure limit. Abstract Squeezing phenomena can lead to severe loads in deep tunnels, especially in the presence of a low ratio of surrounding rock strength to overburden pressure.
