. 하나는 용접 전에 용접되는 재료 및 시스템의 상태를 감시하는 것이다. 두 번째는 용접 중에 발생되는 다양한 현상을 모니터링 하는 것으로 레이저 용접시 발생되는 다양한 현상을 이에 맞는 센서를 이용하여 계측하는 방법이다. 세 번째로는 용접 후 용접부의 결함 등을 모니터링 하는 것으로 접된 부위의 형상, 기공 등에 의한 불량 등을 외관검사 및 비파괴검사를 통해 검출하게 된다. 레이저 용접의 모니터링 기술은 크게 2가지 부분으로 구성된다. 하나는 다양한 센서를 이용한 하드웨어 시스템의 개발이며, 다른 하나는 계측된 신호 혹은 데이터를 이용하여 품질평가 혹은 용접부의 기계적 혹은 형상적 특성과 매칭시키는 기술이다.
