Numerical Simulation of MIG Weld Pool in Switchback Welding

Welding in the World, 2009
The authors proposed a switchback welding method to make stable back beads in the first layer weld during one-side multi-layer welding. In the proposed welding method, a welding torch is moved backwards and forwards like a switchback. The torch motion is important in the control of the weld pool.

Welding Simulation of Complex Automotive Welded Assembly

2013

Simulating welding with shell elements

Journal de Physique IV, 2004
Finite element simulations can be used to evaluate residual stresses and distortions induced by welding. Such simulations must account for complex interactions between thermal, metallurgical and mechanical phenomena. “Local” simulations are often sufficient for satisfactory predictions of residual stresses in the heat-affected zone (HAZ), but 3D ...

EFFECT OF VIRTUAL WELDING SIMULATOR ON TIG WELDING TRAINING [PDF]

open access: possible, 2020
The objective of the study is to analyze the contribution of our simulator to assisting trainees in developing their TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding skills. With use of the developed virtual welding simulator, three-dimensional welding processes can be performed in virtual environments comparable to those that occur during real welding.

Simulation on the welding of CLAM steel

Fusion Engineering and Design, 2010
Abstract China Low Activation Martensitic (CLAM) steel was regarded as the research object in this paper, three-dimensional finite element numerical model of two-layer welding by one side was established using FEA software—ANSYS, methods of ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL) and life–death element technique were applied to simulate the moving of

Simulation for Design of Automated Welding

EUROCON 2007 - The International Conference on "Computer as a Tool", 2007
This paper describes a promising approach where simulations were used in the design of real-time control for automated welding. A finite element method has been used for thermal modelling of gas tungsten arc welding on a simplified test object. Measurement data for model calibration and validation was acquired through thermal imaging during weld ...

Simulation of Rotational Welding Operations

2010
Abstract Friction welding is based on the rapid introduction of heat, causing the temperature at the interface to rise sharply and leading to local softening. This article illustrates the basic principles of direct-drive rotational friction welding and inertia friction welding. Modeling the effective friction response of the materials is

Simulation of Friction Stir Welding

2010
Abstract This article discusses the fundamentals of friction stir welding (FSW) and presents governing equations and an analytical solution for heat transfer. It provides the solutions for structural distortion in FSW. The article describes various techniques that have been adopted to solve the equations and simulate the FSW process. The

Multiphysics welding simulation model

International Journal of Material Forming, 2008
The electron beam welding (EBW) process is extensively used for assembling titanium and other high strength components in the aircraft engine industry. For such applications, it is important to predict distortions and residual stresses after the welding process.
