Radioactivity and geochemistry of calc-alkaline neovolcanites of the West Carpathians
Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica, 1989The distribution of radioactive elements(Th, U, K) and selected trace elements(Rb, Sr, Ba, Y, Zr, V, Cr, Ni) in a set of 29 volcanic rocks of the West Carpathians was studied. The rock types follow the typical calc-alkaline sequence from basaltic andesites to rhyolites with average contents of SiO2, K2O, Th, U, Rb, Ba and Zr increasing, and with ...

Deep crustal structure beneath the central and inner West Carpathians
Tectonophysics, 1993Abstract The 150-km-long deep seismic transect 2T crossing the central part of the Slovakian West Carpathians has revealed an important whole-crustal seismic suture zone dipping to the south. This zone is dominated by six large and several minor reflection events.

Transition from convergence to escape: Field evidence from the West Carpathians
Tectonophysics, 1993Abstract The Tertiary deformation of the West Carpathians occurred during northeast-directed convergence of the European and Apulian plates and was complicated by space constraints imposed by orogen advance. Palaeostress fields computed from fault-slip data and structural interpretation of known gravimetric, magnetic, seismic, palaeomagnetic ...

Cenozoic stress field and jointing in the outer West Carpathians, Poland
Journal of Geodynamics, 1998Abstract The Polish segment of the outer Carpathians fold-and-thrust belt is composed of a number of North-verging nappes. Preliminary studies of joint patterns within different lithostratigraphic units of these nappes, as well as within discordantly overlying younger strata, enable one to constrain the Late Cretaceous through Quaternary stress ...

A new model estimating stonefly species production in the West Carpathian torrents
Biologia, 2010Samples of stoneflies were collected from 15 streams of Slovakia during 1976–2000. The model of growth rate is based on 219 data of 50 stonefly species. The non-linear relationship among growth rate (G) of stoneflies and monthly mean water temperature (T) and body mass (W) is described by equation: G = 0.014W −0.19

Spatial distribution of regeneration in West-Carpathian uneven-aged silver fir forests
European Journal of Forest Research, 2005The objective of our study was to examine whether distribution of regeneration in uneven-aged fir (Abies alba Mill.) forests is related to the spatial pattern of trees. In 12 sample plots of size 0.45–1.00 ha (in total 8.65 ha, with stand basal areas ranging from 27.6 m2 ha−1 to 39.5 m2 ha−1), all live and dead trees above 5 cm in d1.3 were mapped and ...
