The First Case Report of West Nile Virus-Induced Acute Flaccid Quadriplegia in Canada

open access: yesCase Reports in Infectious Diseases, 2018
The 1999 New York City outbreak of West Nile virus (WNV) was associated with a high incidence of West Nile virus neuroinvasive disease (WNVND) where the outcomes for these patients were very poor.

Seroprevalence of IgG Antibodies Directed against Dengue, Chikungunya and West Nile Viruses and Associated Risk Factors in Madagascar, 2011 to 2013

open access: yesViruses, 2023
Arboviruses have been shown to circulate in Madagascar, including West Nile, dengue, and chikungunya viruses, though the extent of their circulation remains poorly documented.

A multidisciplinary approach to the detection of and response to West Nile virus in the Netherlands between 2020 and 2023: best practices, challenges and opportunities

open access: yesEurosurveillance
BACKGROUND In the Netherlands, locally acquired animal and human cases of West Nile virus (WNV) were first identified in 2020 via multidisciplinary WNV monitoring and research activities focusing on mosquitoes, birds, horses, and humans.

NMR analysis of the dynamic exchange of the NS2B cofactor between open and closed conformations of the West Nile virus NS2B-NS3 protease. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2009
BACKGROUND: The two-component NS2B-NS3 proteases of West Nile and dengue viruses are essential for viral replication and established targets for drug development.

Mental Status after West Nile Virus Infection

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2006
Mental status after acute West Nile virus infection has not been examined objectively. We compared Telephone Interview for Cognitive Status scores of 116 patients with West Nile fever or West Nile neuroinvasive disease.

Emerging insights into CC and CXC chemokines and their receptors in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dual roles of CC and CXC chemokines in distinguishing active, latent, and subclinical tuberculosis were reviewed, along with an evaluation of their potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets to advance precision medicine in tuberculosis management. The graphical abstract was generated with AI assistance (Gemini 3.0).

UCHL3 Regulates Subgenomic Flaviviral RNA Condensates to Promote Virus Propagation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Flavivirus subgenomic RNAs (sfRNAs) antagonise antiviral defences, yet how sfRNAs are organized and maintained in cells remains poorly understood. Here we identify ubiquitin C‐terminal hydrolase L3 (UCHL3) as a post‐translational regulator of flavivirus sfRNA stability and function.

RNF138‐Mediated Ubiquitination and Degradation of NS5 Restricts Tick‐Borne Encephalitis Virus Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Host‐specific compatibility between RNF138‐like proteins and flavivirus NS5 determines NS5 stability. Mammalian RNF138 but not arthropod homologs recognizes and induces conserved NS5/RdRp K48‐linked ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation, thereby restricting viral replication. Ectopic RNF138 in mice attenuates TBEV‐induced pathogenesis. (Created in

Design Space Assessment of Virus Inactivation in Plasma‐Derived Matrices Establishes a Single Detergent Alternative to TX‐100‐Containing Mixes

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The detergent Triton X‐100 (TX‐100) is a typical component of solvent/detergent (S/D) mixes applied for virus inactivation steps of biomanufacturing processes, yet environmentally unfavorable properties have led to restrictions on its use. Deviron 13‐S9 has recently been described as an eco‐friendly TX‐100 alternative, with powerful virus ...
