MODIFIED WESTERGREN SEDIMENTATION TUBE

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1940
The sedimentation tube is a modification of the Westergren tube and was designed to improve and facilitate the technic of blood sedimentation. The tube is 250 mm. long, with an internal diameter of approximately 2.5 mm. It is graduated from zero to 200 mm. and has a capacity in the graduated area of approximately 1 cc.

Anticoagulant for Westergren Sedimentation

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1968
To the Editor:— The answer to the query concerning the appropriate anticoagulant for the Westergren method for determining the erythrocyte sedimentation rate ( 205 :653, 1968) does not emphasize the considerable influence that the anticoagulant may have on the results. Gambino et al ( Amer J Clin Path 43 : 173, 1965) and Dawson ( Brit Med J 1 :1697,

The mechanism of erythrocyte sedimentation in Westergren’s examination

Biorheology, 1992
The authors deduced the equation that describes the sedimentation of erythrocytes as the function of time, hematocrit, hemoglobin and some plasma protein concentrations and the citrate viscosity and density. This values served to describe plasma and erythrocyte density, plasma viscosity, erythrocyte aggregation and the influence of suspension ...

Whither Westergren--the sedimentation rate reevaluated.

The Journal of rheumatology, 1981
The term "Westergren sedimentation rate" implies that a standardized test is being performed. Questionnaires sent to 177 rheumatologists and 150 clinical laboratory directors showed that a variety of techniques are used to perform the sedimentation rate by the "Westergren" method. A comparative study revealed that the most reproducible results could be

COMPARISON OF WESTERGREN AND KATO ERYTHROCYTE SEDIMENTATION RATE READINGS

American Journal of Diseases of Children, 1944
The erythrocyte sedimentation test is a laboratory procedure which may be of some help in diagnosing rheumatic fever and is known to be of definite aid in evaluating the clinical conditions of patients with this disease. During the acute and subacute or active phases of rheumatic fever it is common practice to obtain sedimentation values rather ...
