Establishing historical benthic cover levels for coral reefs of the Western Indian Ocean
Data on coral reef health prior to large-scale disturbances are unavailable in most parts of the world including the Western Indian Ocean (WIO). Robust coral reef health baselines could improve the understanding of changes occurring to reefs in the 21st ...

High-resolution HNC 3-2 SMA observations of Arp220 [PDF]
We present high resolution (0."4) observations of HNC J=3-2 with the SubMillimeter Array (SMA). We find luminous HNC 3-2 line emission in the western part of Arp220, centered on the western nucleus, while the eastern side of the merger shows relatively faint emission.

Eddy energy sources and mesoscale eddies in the Sea of Okhotsk [PDF]
Based on an eddy-permitting ocean circulation model, the eddy kinetic energy (EKE) sources are studied in the Sea of Okhotsk. An analysis of the spatial distribution of the EKE showed that intense mesoscale variability occurs along the western boundary of the Sea of Okhotsk, where the East-Sakhalin Current extends.
