Concrete jungle to urban oasis: evaluating scale, vegetation cover, and aggregation of urban greenspaces on wildlife

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Urban greenspaces are a haven for wildlife in densely populated cities. Wildlife use greenspaces for resource acquisition, shelter, and travel across urbanized landscapes. Greenspace metrics such as herbaceous or woody landcover, size, patchiness, and human land use influence species richness.

Mechanism of the zonal displacements of the Pacific warm pool : implications for ENSO [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The western equatorial Pacific warm pool is subject to strong east-west migrations on interannual time scales in phase with the Southern Oscillation Index.

Apex predators exploit advantageous snow conditions across hunting modes

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Advantageous snow conditions—in terms of snow depth and density—are among the most important features of the winter landscape for two apex predators, regardless of hunting strategy. In a warming climate, the knock‐on effects of a diminishing snowpack may reduce the hunting success of multiple large carnivore species.

Emergence of decadal linkage between Western Australian coast and Western–central tropical Pacific

open access: yesNature Communications
The impact of interbasin linkage on the weather/climate and ecosystems is significantly broader and profounder than that of only appearing in an individual basin. Here, we reveal that a decadal linkage of sea surface temperature (SST) has emerged between

Sailing Through Time: Building Pacific Maritime Resilience

open access: yesGlobal Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article examines the Pacific Blue Shipping Partnership (PBSP), an ambitious initiative aimed at decarbonising maritime transport across Oceania. The study explores the cultural, historical and technological aspects of wind‐propelled shipping in the Pacific.

Observed correlation of surface salinity, temperature and barrier layer at the eastern edge of the western Pacific warm pool

open access: yes, 2006
International audienceRecent theory suggests that ocean-atmosphere interactions in the western Pacific warm pool are of fundamental importance to interannual variations associated with El Niño and the Southern Oscillation (ENSO).

Response of Remote Tropical West Pacific Islands to Climate Variability: A Multiproxy Record From T‐Lake, Palau, Spanning the Early Holocene to Present

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lake sediments are natural archives of past environmental dynamics and how these systems have responded to past climate variability. Sediment geochemistry, governed by local geology and climate processes, is unique to each lake‐catchment and geochemical proxies must be validated for each study site.

“A Total Paradigm Shift”: Interviews With Australian Maternity Care Providers Who Practice Weight‐Inclusive Care

open access: yesBirth, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Weight stigma is pervasive in maternity care, contributing to negative health outcomes and disengagement among larger‐bodied women. To reduce weight stigma and promote respectful, individualized care, a weight‐inclusive approach prioritizes overall well‐being rather than focusing on weight as a key health indicator.

An interdecadal extension of the Indo-Pacific warm pool and its strengthened influence on the South China Sea summer monsoon since the late 1980s

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2020
In this study, the interdecadal change in the size of the Indo-Pacific warm pool (IPWP) and its connection with the intensity of the South China Sea summer monsoon (SCSSM) in May are investigated.

Numerical Simulation of the Mesoscale Air-Sea Interaction over the Western Pacific Warm Pool

open access: yes, 2002
The purpose of the research is to improve our understanding of the air-sea interaction processes over the region of western Pacific warm pool and ultimately improve weather and climate predictions. To achieve this goal, an air-sea coupled numerical model
