To wet or not to wet?

Physics World, 1996
Something as commonplace as a drop of liquid on a surface may seem simple to understand. But the behaviour of this droplet, particularly if it spreads over the surface to form a film, has immense technological importance. "Wetting" can, for example, affect the growth of crucial film layers during the manufacture of semiconductor devices.

Turning autophobic wetting on biomimetic surfaces into complete wetting by wetting additives

Soft Matter, 2020
Autophobicity or pseudo partial wetting, a phenomenon of a liquid not spreading on its own monolayer, is characterized by an energy barrier that prevents the growth of a wetting film beyond the monolayer thickness, which additionally may have an impact on the conditioning performance of films.

Enantiospecific Wetting

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2010
Experiments have shown that enantiospecificity can be important in wetting. Measurements of droplet contact angles can be used to estimate the energy of enantiomeric discrimination.

THE WET CHILD

Urologic Clinics of North America, 1998
Urinary incontinence is one of the most frequent problems seen in pediatric urology. Although there can be serious structural problems that produce wetting, most of the children seen will have nonstructural causes for their incontinence. A systematic approach and persistence with therapy should result in resolution of the problem in most instances.

Wet-On-Wet Silicone Hardcoat

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1991
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A new silicone hardcoat ‘wet-on-wet system has been developed to increase productivity in the coatings industry by reducing the processing time by at least 67%. The performance and weatherability of this coating is comparable to that of the baked primer silicone hardcoat system.

Knife Wetting Device: Wet Celloidin Technique

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1968
IN preparing histological sections using the wet celloidin technique the knife of the sliding microtone, the block being cut, and the sections cut from it must be kept wet with 80% alcohol. The block is kept wet with a steady drip from a dropping bottle.

Day wetting

Pediatric Nephrology, 1990
About 1% of healthy children over the age of 5 years have troublesome daytime wetting. Two-thirds of those who wet by day are reliably dry at night. The problem is more common in girls and is usually the result of urge incontinence. Although the wetting may be exacerbated by giggling and/or stress, pure giggle micturition and isolated stress ...

Why wet feels wet? A neurophysiological model of human cutaneous wetness sensitivity

Journal of Neurophysiology, 2014
Although the ability to sense skin wetness and humidity is critical for behavioral and autonomic adaptations, humans are not provided with specific skin receptors for sensing wetness. It has been proposed that we “learn” to perceive the wetness experienced when the skin is in contact with a wet surface or when sweat is produced through a multisensory ...

Wetting or non-wetting liquid?

Physics Education, 2000
What factors determine whether or not a particular liquid will wet a particular surface? Is it possible for a meniscus in a capillary to become convex from concave? What would you have to do to flatten it out? In university courses in physics there is often a lack of example or comment concerning the influence of temperature on the characteristics of ...
